Ahoy! (pirate tricks needed)

Postby CaptainDanTastic » Sep 2nd, '14, 10:16

Hey everyone!

I've been performing as a pirate magician at children's parties and festivals for the last four years

My act seems to be a typical kid birthday, with magic and games mixed throughout, but I would like to increase my magic repertoire, so I can do bigger and better festival acts.

I am looking for any recommendations for tricks that could be linked to pirates or adventures around the world :D

Sounds like you want bigger tricks though, surely anything can be adapted with the right script. Think of the props you associate with pirates and play!
Not so helpful I guess but it's what I do with Scifi/fantasy themes.

ok a few things that would work;-

cut and restored rope.... pirates would cut there guy ropes at the dockside for a quick getaway often reclaiming there rope and tying it together..... longstanding pirates new the secret recipe to mend there ropes.
tip trunk i.e. pirates booty chest.
secret treasure map can be used with pirate booty chest..... simple map with squares numbered, roll a die and add the top and bottom number together to get a random number   that square contains a picture of the magic word you predicted or makes the tip trunk full of treasure {use whatever production device or prediction you like}.
colouring book....pirates used hypnosis to escape the law and hide there booty let me demonstrate, a tube on the back of the book can carry treasure which you can tip out of the book at the end
change bag can be used to show how several pirates would evade the law by disappearing into the clods only to reappear in the pirates cove... some hankies and colouring pens is all you need.

should get you juices flowing..... remember to err is human to arrr is pirate. :D

To figure this out logically is first figure out exactly what it is pirates do. Then apply effects you already have to what the pirate does.

So, what do pirates do?

Rape, Pillage and plunder. So, go look through all your magic stuff and choose effects that relate to one or all of those catagories. Better yet ignore my advice completely.

Torn and restored map/flag?
a misers dream type efect about diging for treasure perhaps?
hat paper tear maybe?

Or rape, pillage and plunder.
it'll be an education at least

Can you get hold of or perhaps make some sponge parrots?

As 'extras' to dress the set and/or give away, there's a fairly easy way of doing a balloon model parrot on a ring perch, no doubt the modellers here will know of it and Google will probably help.
