Trust me - you won't regret it :roll: .

I've never done cups before (plenty of C.U.P.S. - but that's a whole new ball game), but I'm now on the lookout for some cups and flash paper, so I can perform Fireballs.

My favourite 3, in no particular order, are:

Card to matchbox;
Metal sheep;
and fireballs

..... I quite like poker cheat as well, 'cos the spec makes all the decisions ....

I've adapted Card to Matchbox for kids, for my residency, which is at a huge family restaurant a convenient four minutes walk from my home, up here in wildest Harrogate.

I don't want to get lectured for encouraging bin lids to play with matches, so I bought a pack of craft matchboxes, which are unprinted matchboxes with no 'strike' (I believe it is called) on the side, for making things (a bed for a patchwork mouse?). I also bought a pack of craft matches, which are matches without the 'head' (I believe it is called), also for making things; the ones I bought are in lots of different colours. I'll walk up to the table with the open matchbox in my hand and say that I would "Never play with matches. Do you know why? They're dangerous! But I have these craft matches that I bought in Hamley's toy shop in London..."

For the cards, I'm going to buy some cartoony cards, the sort kids might by. Normal cards but with Snoopy or Harry Potter on the back, and probably decorative faces too. Though it wouldn't have to be playing cards, as in, Ace to King, could be Snap cards or any other kind of cards, though ideally where they're all different.

As for the routine, I'm sure some kids would be fine with the dealing process but others would find it boring, or will get "sticky" on them, so I'm just going to do a riffle force (after Mum or Dad do a shuffle), take the card out, fold it, get the kids to flatten it further (I'm sure they'll love that!), do a false transfer, pocket ditch while searching for my wand, say that I can't find the want, then ask the kids to use a few of the matches as wands instead, which I'd left on the table before closing the matchbox earlier. Of course, the card in the matchbox will be a duplicate.

No longer self-working, but as I've mentioned a few times, personally my idea of self working is anything with basic moves like a force or a false transfer, and nothing complicated to remember. Not that the dealing process here is particularly complicated, but anyway...

PS, all that remains of the original handling is the load, but anyway... And for adults I do the Automata version, with grown-up cards.

I've decided I'm gonna give this one a go.

I've done a search on Ebay, etc .... but there's zillions for sale .....

I think these are quite cheap and would do the job

All the best

Steve

I've just ordered these shot glasses .... now where's the best (cheapest) place to get flash paper from ...... my ever-so-helpful friends ??

Having been persuaded by all the positive comments, I bought this DVD (from Costas at Magic Tao 'cos he's only down the road) and I must admit it's a superb buy. When watching the performances I had to keep on reminding myself that these are self working effects - they look that good. I've bought DVDs of routines in the past and found that I could use less than10% of the stuff on there but this DVD is full of stuff I can, and will, do!

Initially I was keen to check out Fireballs and certainly wasn't disappointed. The cups referred to above at Amazon are excellent although there's not a lot of room between the cups when stacked so the paper balls need to be quite small otherwise the 'situation' can be rather visible to the keen eyed spec. The only negative point I can make is the rather annoying 'music' played at the start of each track - after a couple of times that 'Dong, plink, plink plinkety plink' gets rather annoying so I now use the mute button each time! Music apart, I have no hesitation in recommending this DVD to anyone who wants to add a few self workers to their act.
