I am working at Magic Tao now Tues, Weds and Thursday, hopefully catch you when you pop in.

Well,I need to get some flash paper for you know what so I might be round soon!

I have a long standing 'booking' with the family for magic on Christmas Day, I only do three routines to keep it all manageable but this year I was struggling and could only find one which I hadn't done for them before and which suits my 'style', ability and the circumstances. Having watched Automata I now not only have a full set of three top quality effects, I have lots of extra ones and need to figure out which to leave out! :D

The only negative point I can make is the rather annoying 'music' played at the start of each track - after a couple of times that 'Dong, plink, plink plinkety plink' gets rather annoying so I now use the mute button each time! Music apart, I have no hesitation in recommending this DVD to anyone who wants to add a few self workers to their act.

My cups from Amazon arrived yesterday, so I had a lil' practice with normal paper (I don't have any flash paper at the mo) and I tend to agree that there's not much room between the cups when they're stacked, but as long as the paper balls are made smallish, I can't see it being a problem.

.... and yea, that music does get a bit annoying after a while lol >.<

If the flash paper squares handed out are quite small then the paper balls should be OK. like you I've only used normal paper - bits of Kleenex - just to get the feel of the routine. No shallots in the kitchens at Mandrake Mansions so I used an artificial grape!

This is one of the best things I ever bought in terms of teaching material. The review here says 'one or two' but personally I use about 80 or 90% of this (as of tonight when I performed one of these for the first time...killer.). I didn't at first, I picked up metal sheep and card to match box pretty quick and the fabulous fire balls which to my delight fools everyone I've worked it on so far but wasn't so keen on the others. I have however slowly worked out when different kinds of tricks seem appropriate and have now pretty much worked in every trick on this dvd into one evening or another, the beauty for me being there is a trick for every occasion. You may, and will, pick one trick you'll love and instantly want to do, but the others will sink in slowly and I reckon before you notice it you'll have used them all at least once.

Having acquired the flash paper I now see that a piece about 1.125" square is the best - might be different for other flash papers but you need to experiment. First attempt saw me almost set the carpet on fire when the flash paper went off a bit too vigorously and a piece was still burning as it descended but no damage fortunately. Shallots were a problem, the loose ones in greengrocers were far too large so i had to but a packet of them from a local ALDi who had the smallest ones in stock. 85p a bag and I now have to use the others somehow - probably pickle them for Christmas!

Shallots were a problem for me too, small enough ones, so I just abandoned that and stash something else like a little note for them or something. I also thought it could be something for the next trick too but haven't put it in a routine yet.

I have just ordered this, falling for all the hype on TM :) Can anybody PM me to tell me if and what props I need to get for the "Metal sheep"? It will take several days for the DVD to arrive here and I don't want to wait even more time to buy the things...

See http://www.full52.com and search for metal sheep. The cost is about £35.00. Other effects on the DVD cost very little to present.

Ok, thanks. I was hoping to be able to buy the things here in my local magic shop to avoid more shipping charges to Belgium, but I'm happy to have asked immediately

EDIT: Argh! They are out of stock :(

Got it. Studied it. Loved it. Not all of it, but I really like at least half of the effects (namely card 2 matchbox, kingpins, metal sheep and poker cheat). I also like the princess redux, but I was able to figure it out while I was watching it; can be improved, but it's still lovely. The others look a bit bland and too transparent to me and maybe require some more thinking.

What I really would like to use is fireballs, but I don't like the final load (as a non native speaker the pun means nothing to me and so the load has no sense) and I would like to justify the appearance of the lighter a bit better. It needs work, but I strongly want to turn this in a nice little (literally) cups and balls routine.

All in all, it's an excellent DVD.
As an added bonus, there is a little bit of mentalism too: the music has been implanted in my brain and it's been stuck there for at least 2 days. ARGH!

Also, I have a question: I find a bit difficult to justify (as I live in Belgium) the 2p for metal sheep. Any advice on other coins that would work?

Link above is to a Euro coin that would work. I haven't seen them in real life so I don't know how good they actually are
