Why should forums that some users don't have access to, at all be visible?

Carrot on a stick I suppose. With the time difference and my schedule, I don't have the chance to stay to current with topics. At this rate I won't live long enough to have the required posts to enter these hallowed halls.

Rune,

'Twas ever so that the glimpse of heaven be afforded to the mortals below :-)

Perhaps it's to show us that there is a higher existence awaiting us or perhaps it's all to do with the software that is used and there is neither cruel tempting or promise of better things behind the way the forum is perceived and displayed.

Having seen the general contents of the public face, don't think it can be much better just more esoteric and therefore proof that knowledge of our art, an ability to learn and keep the gob shut and an inability to ask 'how's it done?" make sense of it all really.

That said, I've put it down to nothing more than the software!

You get the cigar!

It's possible to hide some of these areas so they aren't seen until access is offered but, with the recent hacker problems, some options either don't work or aren't easily accessible at the moment.

Vic, your answer was ok, but I still don't see the reason. There are SO many forums you don't have access to (as a normal user), and honestly, I don't care what "mortals below" don't have access to. I am here for magic chat, and not to envy other magicians with other leverls of access. But that's me...

I know what you mean with this but I am playing with the idea of a forum for one of the groups I've been asked to be webmaster too and find that what some software offer as an easy option (i.e. hiding forums or categories) others don't.

Guess that's the way it crumbles at the moment, but also suppose that this will chage when it becomes a viable option for them too as it must frustrate many and is probably the source of discontent to others too.

In a way it's nice to see what promise the future holds and I am glad that more esoteric stuff is obviously there and yet also protected from the casual joiner.

Still, doubtless the keys to heaven will come to us all. Glad you had such a good time at the Cambridge Theatre.
