I think Blaine is an amazing magician, the best thing is he has made people have more respect for magicians especially if you perform a trick that they've seen on one of his specials.

David Blaine is to put it quite bluntly c*** (not the best)...
all his tricks can be brought for a small cost and i can perform almost all of them. i could tell how all of them were done instantly and im only 16.
his recent little stunts arnt even magic. standing in a block of ice.... thats not magic or on top of his crapy little pole.
he was just lucky to get noticed. and there are hundereds of better magicians that dont have half as much fame or publicity.

Absolutely not imo!! He performs flawless magic of intermediate skill. Not only this, but he has a presentation which makes HIM interesting to his spectators.

Let us not forget that magic is a form of entertainment and whether you like DB or not, we have to admit that one does not receive $1m for a "stunt" unless a TV company knows that you will also provide an audience.

any amateur magician can do what 'DB' does so u can imagine what a proffesinal could do. the reason the producers hire him is cos hes cheap and they cant aford already famous magicians who have well earned respect. his respect has come easy to him for doin tricks many of us can do the same as him if not better. yet we dont get the respect and fame he does

In that case, I stand corrected. I was under the impression that David Blaine was both famous AND expensive! Perhaps there are two DBs?

oh he is expensive now but paul daniels used to be expensive does that meen he has lost his talen now. he is now doing the occasional show in Potters Bar or somewhere. the amount you get paid doesnt reflect on how gd u r.

i think that david blain is over rated, i think for him it was just a case of being in the right place at the right time, if it wasn't him it would have been someone else

could agree more with that. but i just dont like him.

thats a good point, he does come across as being a bit stoned
all that said though, he has done what he set out to do, and street magic does seem more popular since his shows

and i am sure the vast majority of people on this forum could have as well.
i guess he was brave enough to follow a dream.

those of us who only work as a magician as a hobby, part time, or for fun probably have a solid job or a stable career.

would you be willing to give this up to follow the dream of being a world famous magician?

Funny how many people say that but how few do it! What David Blaine has done, is to come up with a unique approach to magic. This is a recipe for being successful.

Simply copying what others have already done can lead to "work" but not to "Stardom"!

in which case i could go buy a new trick from the 'magic shop' and become famouse fro it because not many people have seen it been done before. i saw my friend do some of his tricks before i saw DB do them

it isn't so much the tricks that you perform but more the way in which the tricks are performed, it is down to the character and individual style of the magician as much as anything else.
