i heard a few magicins talking bad about David Blaine because he did simple tricks that most magicians know, and i'd like to give my opinion on it. Its not the trickshe does, its how he performs it, he makes people believe, he adds mystery and has a style thats unique. He has perfected his craft to the smallest detail. i know and perform most of his street magic and when i watch him i still get amazed. and besides just the fact the he has made magic the talk of the town, makes him one of the greats in my opinion, what do you think?

I agree, the magic is not only in the trick but in your performance. I perform nearly all of the trick that blaine does, but yet he does still amaze me as do a lot of magicians. But since I prefer the card side of magic i.e manipulation and sleights my great's are people like Cardini and Vernon.

I believe David Blaine to be a great performer!
I would have to agree with all the above posts. I believe that a lot of magicians are jealous that they did think of doing a show in the first place.

What do think is better, Blaine doing magic a favour and publising it to be great. Or some sh*thead in a mask, ruining great tricks and slieghts, that you and i have given a lot of time to learn?

I take my hat off to him, his "patter" is brilliant, and i can only hope one day i have as much courage to walk up to complete strangers and perform.

Please note that there other wicked magicians out there, to whom all i give credit too.

I think David Blaine has got to be one of the greatest street magicians of all time. He does simple tricks which are extremely affective. He gives magicians a good name.

David Blaine's magic is amazing, even if some of it is done with clever editing - all magic is trickery of sorts, so does that still count? Or is it classed as cheating?

As for the card through window trick, I'd love to ba able to do it (guess I should start saving!) - but HOW does he do it?!?

Talking of David Blaine i was wondering what the other members of this board thought of his latest stunts(being buried in water and standing in ice). Is this truly a quest to stretch himself or is it merely a publicity stunt from a magician who's run out of tricks. I'd love to hear your opinions while i try to form my own.

I think he is trying to get away from just street magic and cards and yes i believe he is doing it for publicity.

Other great magicians have done the same to get people's attention.

Also i have heard that he has been doing magic since a child, i think he has learnt lots of tricks in his lifetime, and i think he still has a 'few tricks up his sleeve’

LOL

saying blaine has a lot of courage is one thing, but remember tha it's a lot easier to go up to someone in public and you're more likely to get a good response if you have a TV crew with you!!

there was a trick on his TV show recently where a signed card was mixed back into the pack which was then flicked across a bar, leaving the chosen & signed card wedged in the neck of an empty beer bottle on the bar... any ideas?

Aha. What you didn't see is that he uses that card in a trick before that one but the camera cuts and goes to the bottle trick. In between tricks he has had a stooge place the card in a beer bottle on the other table. You see what I'm saying (it was already there)! Another great piece of editing eh. I only know this because I have the DVD "mystifier" and on the extra tricks section you see the girl choose that card for another trick and sign it. (they never thought anyone would catch on to that obviosly)

Hope this has helped,

David

well! i think that he is still a great magacian even if he does use camera tricks, his shows are still very effective and amazing to watch, being a magician i still find his tricks amazing to watch, which shows how good he is.
but i do think that he is a bit strange ,for standing in a block of ice for 62 days, but i still could not belive that a human body could with-stand such a dramatic and dangeors condition, with no food, only water. And that is truley amazing.

yes it was a very difficult task to stay awake for 62 hours but inside the ice he would have been quite alright. The inner part acting like a wet suit. An incredible stunt which got him even more notoriety, that only a very fit person could have done but the danger angle was really blown out of proportion.
Still think he is an amazing card manipulator and must thank him for bringing the balducci levitation to a wider audience. It works a treat.

Regards

Nik

basically in the end he's a good entertainer.Whether the magic is edited or not it can still blow you away and that's why he's become so big.

He has started a revolution in my opinion, you go round spain and theres street magicians doing his tricks probobly while their friend is picking your pocket but its great when you tell them how they done it..get a bit of revenge from all the times people do it to you. Mwuhahahahhaa

Blaine popularised "street magic" along with Zenon in the UK. Both of which stirred my interest in magic further, and I am where I am today with magic because of them both. My opinion of them is both very high.
