I don't think I have seen very much (if anything) on more serious readings.
Anybody can come up with some generalised waffle for ten minutes or so, and with some people only 5 minutes. I don't see much guidance on readings which take 30 minutes to an hour which deal with the problems people have.
There is virtually nothing put out by mentalists which get into any depth with regard to this.
This is absolutely true quite simply because most mentalists are not billing themselves or working as readers. Throwing in a quick reading as part of a routine is great (and I do it a lot) but dangerous if you can't follow it up with a full reading if asked (and you will get asked). And another problem with not being able to give full readings when asked, is that you could be missing out on another source of income.
Until I returned to the UK in August 2014 I worked up and down the Costa Del Sol in Spain for 7 years performing my mentalism act in show bars and clubs. The act is specifically aimed at selling readings after the show and that is what I did 2 - 3 nights a week for years. An hour standup show followed by paid tarot readings for those in the audience who wanted them. I'd often do 10 - 15 readings after the show and finish at 4am.
I'd say the place to learn a reading system isn't from a magician or mentalist but by studying the works of real readers, learning a system whether it be tarot, palms, runes or belly button reading, learn it inside out and do readings with the mindset of it being real rather than a trick.
I have (as far as I am aware) all of Richard Webster's work (it's all good) and had a long email correspondence with him some years ago when I was setting up my psychic shows in Marbella. However the original Mail order psychic system is pretty much out of the window these days with the advent of the internet, I do know of readers who will produce a chart etc and send it to you when you send them the cash via paypal, however there is so much DIY astrology (and other) software available online for free these days, that I'm not sure how viable that is. Live skype readings is another system some readers I know are using and in these days of online conference calls and webinars, could be an alternative to the mail order route.
Richard doesn't go into the marketing aspect of the mail order psychic in depth in the book other than giving examples of taking out free adverts in the local press, so it wouldn't really help much with the marketing aspect.
And now for a blatant plug, if you haven't already taken advantage of it, the 10% discount offer on all my books and routines on my website, finishes at midnight on the 31st of December so don't miss out. Visit ww.scottcreasey.com/products-main/ to find out more.
And a Happy New Year to you all.
