Removing ink / marks from playing cards

Postby Rufio » Feb 14th, '15, 12:09

I am not sure if others have this strange compulsion, but I found myself craving a new packet trick as there was an empty sections in my JOL wallet. Resisting the magnetic pull of a new purchase with the mantra that it would only be for the sake of buying and that I don't REALLY need another packet trick, I raided my magic drawer with the aim of rediscovering a forgotten packet trick.

Lo and behold I found David Penn's Hypno Aces, a very underrated and visual snappy trick, all complete.

Over the years I had bought Hypno Aces three or four times, simply because I had lost them due to both poor pocket management coupled with drunkeness. I looked forward to performing this again, knowing the strong reactions it would receive.

To my dismay I instantly remembered why it was in Tge Drawer: my Sharpie had leaked one night in my pocket (my jeans have a permanent black circle to this day), and with Hypno Aces in the pocket as well the cards have a black-ish / slightly blue-ish markings that won't come off.

The CUPS trigger appeared, and years ago I would have pressed the Paypal funded trigger without another thought or remorse, but I felt a twinge of parsimoniousness. Perhaps I have recovered from the terrible CUPS afflection after all.

But does anyone know of a way of removing this ink (imagine it looks as if a fountain pen cartidge has burst and gone everywhere)? It is mainly around the edge and borders so is not completely saturated, so could still be saved. I was thinking acetone BUT that could just remove ALL the playing card ink. I also don't want the card to warp from water as I know playing cards turn dark blue when wet.

Any suggestions would be much apprrciated. Thanks

I was going to say nail varnish removed but that'll take the card ink off as well. How much would a 2nd hand Hypno Aces cost? I've got one I don't use.

I think nail varnish would remove the ink off. I've paid between 5 quid and 18 quid previously. Would £5 just for the cards alone (don't need the DVD) be acceptable? Suggestions to remove the extra ink would still be welcome.
