Looking at the registration form for 2016...

"If you wish to pay by credit / debit card please email your card details to Arthur Casson for security reasons."

Surely I'm not the only one that's suspicious of this?

It's widely regarded that sending "normal" email is about as secure as writing the information on a postcard and handing it to someone to hand to someone else until it reaches the intended recipient. All of the mail servers in between sender and recipient can read (and therefore harvest) the data on there.

Also, Arthur has not been without email/data security concerns (sutra466156.php).

I will be waiting until the PayPal option is available (and recommend that or a cheque in the post for others).
Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for the Paypal details as I quite like the front stalls for the gala shows :D

Anyone else noticed they've called it a festival rather than a convention this time?

Yup, hence the title of the thread :D !

I'm guessing there will he other changes, they've brought back the VIP ticket idea and, as the horseshoe area was due to be redeveloped into a museum of some sort, the 'downstairs' shows and competitions will probably be different. Also bear in mind that they host the Euro FISM soon as well.

Latest details with one or two changes are (courtesy of BMC Website) :

    2016 Programme of Events

Prior to the 2016 convention the festival programme will be uploaded here, for you to download and plan your next festival. If you haven't been to one of our conventions before, then it's well worth having a look at the previous 2015 programme to see what you've been missing.

Year on year, we smash all previous records and for 2016 we plan to continue that trend, with more dealers, more performers...oh and over 3,500 of you!

Here’s what I can tell you so far....

Before the festival, on Thursday we host the biggest magic auction you've ever seen!
“Three” superb gala shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Featuring the world’s greatest magicians and acts from all across the globe.
Year on year we get more and more dealers, for 2016 we expect over 120 from across the globe.
Dealer demonstrations showing the latest effects.
star lecturers from the world’s best international performers
Tears & laughter with Wayne Dobson & friends
    international competitions with cash prizes
Beat the wand- it just gets bigger and bigger!
Jeff Mc Bride (& Co) will be hosting his Magic & Mystery School - details coming soon!
VIP registrations for exclusive events throughout the festival. (now 'very' limited)
The Sunday night will end after the Gala show, we will not be hosting an after show party as in previous years.
We are also retiring the poster exhibition, the spaces will be used for other events.

Acts are already being booked as we scour the globe for the best in magical entertainment, speciality acts and the world’s best lecturers and performers. Keep watching this space for regular updates.

Even before the end of the last festival we had already sold hundreds of registrations for 2016
    – we sell out every year, so you have been warned - register now!

So no poster exhibition and, not surprisingly, no after show show on the Sunday!

The VIP tickets are probably all gone by now but, as many of the extra features clash with other events, that's not something I'd worry over unduly - there's enough going on to fill the time anyway. The promise of priority seating for the gala shows is new and quite tempting but, again, the extra cost involved can probably be spent in the Dealer Hall more effectively! Gold card registrations for all the days and shows aren't usually sold out yet and, despite what impression may be given by the BMC, these are sometimes still available right up to the start date. Try contacting Arthur Casson at BMC and asking if you can part pay a few quid now and send balance of payment in a couple of weeks or so.

Dealers don't usually give discounts as such but will offer special show prices on selected items. Towards the close of the Dealer Hall on the Sunday you may find some dealers selling off stock at further reduced prices but no guarantees that the 'must have' item you want will be among them. Best option, chat to the dealers and try bargaining with them - it probably won't work but still worth a try!

London dealers Davenports and International Magic are both usually there although International took a much smaller space in February 2015 than usual.

After the evening ents the Ruskin Hotel is the main place people try to squeeze into.

Cheap B&Bs abound though, look on somewhere like booking dot com or similar, and specify 'close to Winter Garden'
