I'm being careful to avoid exposure, and I only have your initial description to go on. Andy Nyman teaches something similar in "The Code". Or otherwise check out the work of Juan Tamariz, Tom Crosbie, Simon Aronson to name a few.

It explains how to do this in an old book called the Encyclopedia of Card Tricks by Jean Hugard. Read the chapter on the Nicola System.

Don't know about the rest of you folks but my chinese is second to none...actually that's an understatement, it's fully and completely none. But still, now I know what's going on I might be able to make some sense of it :)

I will name the trick as requested. From this day forward the trick will be known as 'Samuel'.

Sweet! Nice one bmat, do you know how to do Samuel? And would Samuel really want to be done I wonder? I'm still quite curious as to how one would go about it, I think I might have to read up on some of the info mentioned above :)

There are several ways to perform Samuel, and Andy Nyman's the code is actually the easiest I can think of (I really love it). Also, something similar can be found in Hannibal's "Truth from a liar" although the latter requires study material. And I cannot say more without exposing.

Nice one MiKo, thanks :) I'm going to look up the code now.

Bmat, I think Samuel may now go down in history :D, I'm certainly going to use it.

I just watched the youtube vid, I think I'm correct in assuming that with no reference of what the bottom card of the split is he then apparently weighs the cards and guesses the correct number, but then also counts them out and knows/names the last card, the 10 of clubs, before he turns it over?

That's pretty cool! I like Samuel a lot.

I can think off the top of my head how I would do this. I don't know whether it is the method in The Code so I won't expose anything. Suffice it to say it requires some preparation.

Well it's surely got to start with a stack/setup, that's as far as I can get. I guess I'm allowed to theorize that much in public?... :) If not then it's even more amazing than I thought.
Is there a difference in 'exposing' when you take wild stabs in the dark as opposed to posting what you pretty much know haha? I've just had a few extra thoughts but I wouldn't want to go too far now :D
