anyone near Great Yarmouth should pop into the arcade Atlantis on the seafront, there is a magic shop inside and the guy is really helpful, spent nearly an hour showing me some of his stock, definate recommendation :D

I was in the Great Yarmouth area during the last couple of weeks and called in to see them. The place is now called The School of Wizardry and there's a website mentioning it tied in with the Atlantis Centre ( http://www.atlantisresort.co.uk/hall-of-magic.php )but the site is very out of date as it refers to Christmas being only 5 weeks away - I guess this is left over from last year!

As mentioned, the two guys who run the shop are very pleasant and helpful and were happy to chat about magic. Due to my being an advanced CUPS sufferer, I already had most of the items they had on sale but I did get a couple of very useful booklets so they might have made 50p from my visit! Apparently they've only been going for 18 months but they have a great shop and layout so it's worth a visit if anyone's in that neck of the woods. At the moment their times of opening are afternoons of Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday (guess which plonker made his first unsuccessful visit on a Friday?) and I only wish they were a bit nearer as I'm sure I'd be a regular visitor.

Davenports Magic site

This place looks really good! I think I'm going to check it out when I next go London!

Hours of Business:

Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm
Saturday 10:30am to 4:30pm
Sundays and Bank Holidays Closed

I think this would be quite important because last time I went to London to go to that magic shop in Chancery Lane, it was closed!! I guess I did go a bit late though :P.

Stevebo,

Can't believe you went to International Magic (Chancery Lane) and it was closed. You must have been pretty late.

Davenports and IM are both very good shops, and they're not far from each other either. Charing Cross to Chancery Lane is only a couple of stops on the Tube.

I know MagicAl went to IM last week, and was lucky enough to see Jerry Sadowitz in there, who is always willing to give advice when he's working in the shop. Martin and the rest of the staff are very helpful too, but beware, if you go in with CUPS, you'll come out poorer money-wise, but richer magic-wise.

Cheers,

Really could not recommend a trip to International enough. They were so helpful, and Jerry has inspired me to practice more. He performed 2 effects from a new book called "The Dave Campbell Legacy" They blew me away, and made me or rather my partner part with £35 of hard earned to get the book there and then! (I will write a review in due course, but am only really scraping the surface at the moment) But be warned, these guys could sell snow to the Eskimos! However, Jerry's recommendations were spot on. You just have to be strong and resist the CUPS! :D

On the other hand we went to Davenports later in the day, and they ignored us. I guess they must be making loads of £££ already. Jerry and Martin really try to make you part with your cash in a friendly way, but I have never bought anything from IM that has been a poor investment.

Davenport's must have changed a bit since I went in a year ago.

I got the same book that MagicAL mentioned from IM... lets see who gets the review written first!

But, to be honest, there's so much quality stuff in it (the packet tricks section is excellent) that it may be a while coming yet!

Magic Shops

Postby Allen Tipton » Oct 5th, '05, 13:22

:) There's always Keith Bennett' shop in Birmingham.
Then there's Russell Hall's Magick Enterprises , Broad St., Sheffield.
And while you're up in Sheffield pop over to Merlin's in Wakefield, Yorks.

Have a look at http://www.kbmagic.co.uk/ - I've only been past the shop after hours so can't say much about it other than it's very narrow!

Thanks for the link Mandrake. Looks like I need to update my list of Magic Shops. Has that shop been there long?

I am sure when I spoke to him there wasn't a shop that could be visited. I could be wrong though.

I'm not sure how long he's been at that address, I think it was about 2 years ago that I was over that way. And when I say narrow, I mean about half the width of the regular size shop next door, very suitable for a shop of mystery!!
