Between The Lines & The Hateful Page & Spineless

Postby FTHO » Oct 21st, '15, 23:08

Hello,

Just an idea I wanted to share. I haven't tried this out... but I may give it a go.

I'm a big fan of Michael Murray's Between The Lines (This thread is the one that convinced me to buy it: ftopic18510.php" target="_blank )

I also really enjoyed Iain Dunford's The Hateful Page ( ftopic21461.php" target="_blank )
Recently I bought Spineless by Chad Long ( http://www.alakazam.co.uk/product-Spine ... -Long.html" target="_blank )

It occurred to me that you could combine either The Hateful Page or Spineless with Between The Lines.

The Hateful Page & Between The Lines

Go through the performance of The Hateful Page, and at the end the spectator will have their chosen page, but you ask them not to look at it. Instead of revealing the information on it you ask them (or a second spectator) to visualise a scene and go into Between The Lines. When they then read through the page they will discover it matches the scene they created in their mind.
So the effect changes so that the spectator reveals whats on the page rather than the performer.

This is certainly more suitable for stage, or stand up type work. It would be difficult to do this close up or in a bar. You need to have a formal performance where you've invited spectators to bring books they hate.

Spineless & Between The Lines

Go through the performance of Spineless. Get the pages of the book "shuffled" and a page selected. Then ask one spectator to hold the chosen page and you get them to imagine the scene( or a second spectator) and go into Between The Lines.
The pages have been shuffled and one selected at random and somehow the spectator is able to describe it without ever seeing it.

I think this would be a better variation in close up. You would need to be carrying the pages with you, but it doesn't make such a mess!

The Hateful Page & Spineless & Between The Lines

I'm certain this is overkill but thought I'd mention it as a possibility.
You start with The Hateful Page, but you get lots of different books torn by their owners and pages everywhere. Then go into Spineless by getting a spectator to gather up a stack of pages which they hand out to various people to shuffle some more... Finally have a page selected and go into Between The Lines.

I've tried not to reveal anything, but if you think this is too revealing then please move this to one of the secret areas.
Its just an idea, I really like all 3 of these effects alone and I wondered if they could be combined to create something slightly different.

Let me know what you think, or if you have any other ideas?

Cheers,

Sam
