|
|
Hey, I am very fond of the Ambitious Card routine and would love to come up with one. But being an EN the routine I've learnt was the one printed in the RR. Which to be quite frank, is fairly naff. Just moving the card to top with overhand shuffle, then back to bottom and finally back to top again. Which just isn't very inspiring!!
So I wondered if anyone here did an Ambitious Card Routine (i guess most card magicians do), without obviously giving any secrets away, could give me a couple of ideas for improving and updating the routine!?
Many thanks. |

Daryl also has a DVD on the ambitious card.
It shows a nice routine and then explains all the handling neccessary to do it. But that's only have the DVD. The other half is dedicated to showing loads (and I mean more than you could remember) "sections" that you could use. He treats the ambitious card as a set of small effects which can be plugged together in any order with numerous variations etc..
Overall I think it's an excellent DVD and will teach you more moves than you could shake a stick at..
You can get it in most good magic shops online (as the phrase goes) as well.

Fantastic! I really enjoyed that because a couple of times I thought I could see what was going on...only to have it destroyed as the card appeared somewhere else! Really good! What twist do you have in your routine now?
Thanks! |

I don't use the last vanish/appearance anymore, changed it for the typical "pop to the top" thing. Classic. _________________ Best regards,

I use Oz's Ambitious Card Routine in Born to Perform. The beauty is that it differs almost everytime you do it, so the spectator doesn't know what to expect! In this routine involves the card to pop up into your mouth, and bending the card then it pops up to the top of the deck. Also, placing the deck into one half of the deck and the card pops up onto the top of the other half.
I use this routine all the time and it has never let me down!

Oz's is good but it's a bit too long for practicality...
I generally just do a simple one which is:
Card on top, put in the middle, on top (normal).
Repeat (marlo tilt).
Repeat (Classic pass to top, DL, ECC)
Repeat face-up (side slip)
Pop-up
But I'm not too good at the side slip (small hands) so I sometimes do it with another pass...

I also do the Oz routine but have never found it to be too long. I find that with some personal banter between you and the audience you can captivate them throughout the whole routine as they don't know what's going on or what will happen next. The card to mouth and the bent rising card finale blow the specs away.

| This is an EXCELLENT DVD showing DARYLS F.I.S.M WINNING ROUTINE plus a S#it load more. Also instead of making it yourself you can also Buy the Gaff that he shows you how to make in the DVD if you want to copy his routine.

Gary
I've just ordered an omni deck after seeing Martin Sanderson's routine on his corporate close-up DVD. He uses some slightly different techniques from the Oz Pearlman routine but ends with the signed card to sealed envelope and then a deck switch to the omni deck while the spec is opening the envelope. Puts the signed card on top of the omni deck, waves the now open envelope over the top, removes the card again and the specs are literaly stunned into silence when he shows the plastic block. I was so impressed with the specs reactions that I ordered one online immediately.
Having just got the DVD I will post a review at the weekend. _________________ Member of the Magic Circle & The 2009 British Isles Close-Up Magician of the Year

Ahh, Dat, a good deck switch like mine would be ideal
Nowadays I only use a straight deck cos I just can't be arsed carrying more than one deck arround. Pockets are full with ESP decks and the rest OK, my cigars too
Its fine in winter when you go out in a jacket, but in this weather You can only carry so much
I'm getting tempted to leave my cards at home and just go out with an ESP deck (or two) they are knocking folk for six Must be all the Derren Brown stuff folk are watching but they really are the most popular thing I'm doing at the moment.
Folk still like the obvious sleight of hand stuff with cards, do as I do with the Emsley always goes down well. So does a simple set of false shuffles and cuts which leaves the Aces on top (this is really the best effect that impresses people because they know its manipulation and they like being impressed with something they can't do). That's why I've stopped taking out fake decks, I can impress without them.
My ambitous card begins with a triple lift and is followed with a DL, it completely throws them, yet I've done nothing different
OK, its the ramblings of an old man so I'll stop now. But I'll be out tomorow night with a straight deck and an ESP deck and I'll be entertaining for hours
Hmmmm, maybe I should grow up _________________ Tenko.

I have deleted all content of my posts (nice one Gary, changing history when you're proved wrong is/was always one of your strongest features - the rest of the usual silly stuff has been deleted by Mods!)

I see the points that you're both making and sort of agree.
In response to Gary -
Reading your post and the reference to the Omni deck I may have read this out of context. I was under the impression that weren't that familiar with it (not that I am)
I too was not convinced with Sanderson's ambitious card routine but I did like the reactions as well as some of the 'touches'. Although I hadn't seen an omni deck in use before, I've purchsed not to use in my own ambitious card routine but to experiment and find what I consider a better use for my own purposes. Whether I find this an use it will be a different matter but it will be fun experimenting. _________________ Member of the Magic Circle & The 2009 British Isles Close-Up Magician of the Year
