Postby lotusteve » Mon Sep 26, 2016 2:36 pm

Just bought my first few tricks from Alakazam..
Cataclsym.....Around the world.....Meltdown....symbol.....
i also have the F1 nitro wallet from them..
also bought some marked cards and a set of tapperd cards from Amazon just to practice with..
doing tricks is a new thing for me so i need to practice them over and over again. my problem at the moment is fumbling with the cards.. i cant keep them moving i a nice smooth way. only been at it a couple of weeks so i need to get some more practice time under my belt..
any tips would be most welcome..
thanks for reading... steve..

Sounds like you're off to a good start! Yes you must get to know those effects so they become almost second nature to you and it doesn’t take all that long if you spend a few minutes or so regularly performing them in private or to trusted friends/relatives.

My fellow magi may disagree with me but my bit of advice is.. don't over practice! Unless you rely on magic as your only source of income then let the while process be pleasant - it’s supposed to be fun and entertaining so don't flog yourself to death over a tricky sleight or other bit of business. Wayne Dobson made a point of taking existing magic routines and removing all the tricky bits so almost anyone could perform them. That left plenty of scope for personalisation and routining where you make the effect entertaining to your audience.

I well remember when I got my first deck of Bikes, things I’d only seen referred to or on vids – almost like holding the Holy Grail. When one routine meant I had to cut some of the cards in half I almost sobbed – honest!!

That's prob enough ..... little and often is my train of thought.
Mandrake has offered some good advice - glad to see you'll be taking it on board :)

If you come across a move/sleight that you're finding hard to master, don't overdo it. Before you feel the frustration setting in, pack in and come back to it another time.

If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Greetings.. Also be aware you don't overload your storage ? "Moonbeam already advised you about overloading ".. I do mean your brain. I remember many years ago i just kept buying magic and more magic.. I got to the point i had so much i couldn't digest everything as i had so much to learn.. You mentioned you purchased a few items already, so be careful you don't do what we all have done before.. Good luck on your quest.
Regards Garry. :)

I can't agree more. Do not over practice. In fact stop reading this and go out and perform. Find some victims...er friends, family whatever and so them some tricks. Don't wait to be perfect, don't wait to be smooth. Just do it. Everything else will fall into place over time. If you wait till you think you have it down. You will never perform. Never really understand. So get those tappered cards out and slide out some aces for your friends. that simple.
