DMC Elites

Postby MrCat » Oct 24th, '18, 10:27

Another day, another mailing list email, another advert haha...

They have all been consigned to my trash folder without being read for a long time but I had a glance, and saw "DMC Elites" - the new latest greates marked deck:

They feature the revolutionary OPTICAL MARKING SYSTEM, a powerful ‘reader’ system designed specifically for the use of magicians and mentalists. The OMS has an ingeniously hidden marking system that is readable with extreme speed, at great range and even in poor light. It hides the value and suit of the card in plain sight, the back of the card literally says the value and suit!

Anyone any experience with these before? Anything to say about them?

I won't pre-judge these but the claims sound so very similar to the dozens of marked decks released in the past few years. If anyone buys these please let us know your thoughts, without being too specific of course :D .

I'm a total sucker as some may know who know me well. and I'm feeling something coming on here. It sounds revolutionary, and genius. Just like a load of S**** I have already... It sounds like a great poker night if I gambled or played poker  neither of which I do but I may take up soon.

I may let you know soon. It's gotta be about time I did a new review...

Someone's gotta bite the bullet. Man up and do this.

To be honest, my eyesight isn't what it used to be so I can't use I.T. and any card markings have to be very easy to see. Which kind of negates the whole idea of 'secret' markings! The recent review I did on Split Personality didn't really mention the markings aspect but, although small and easily overlooked, are quite easy to see as long as you know what to look for. I hope these new decks are along similar lines.

I bought these because even after all of the other stuff i have swallowed the hype for I am still a bit of a push over. The markings are different to any other marked deck I have seen. They are actually 1/2 inch high and just over the same measurement wide. They are also quite clear to the reader and virtually invisible to any casual spectator. However, my problem with them is that my 68 year old eyes still need to have a good stare at the marks (which appear in the top left corner whichever way you orientate the deck) and are still not easy to read in low light. And by low light I mean the sort of ambient artificial light you would get in most pubs. Added to this is the fact that they are a unique back pattern and i use bikes for virtually everything else can still throw some suspicion on to the deck. So, good but not great would be my summing up. I am still looking for the ultimate marked deck in bikes!

Yes the backs and bycicles was one of my problems haha, I asumed tho it was possible to get regular decks with a similar backing to these? I haven't looked yet.

Edit: Yes I see the problem now having looked for similar cards and not able to find any. I guess the answer is if you're not going too card heavy in a routine/performance, just use these and nothing else if you're gonna use them at all.

This just in my mail from MoM upon enquiry:

The DMC decks are only available as marked cards.

There is no unmarked version at present.

Kind regards

Perfectly summed up. This is exactly what the DMC Elites are known for - large markings that can easily be read from nearby or a distance away, and yet invisible to the spectator.

Pity about them being hard to read in low light though - although I suspect that would be true of any marked deck, and that's an environment issue that you're not likely to overcome I'm afraid. If the DMC Elites don't work for your setting, then unfortunately I doubt any marked deck will.
