PRESS RELEASE

FINBAR HEALY ADDS A TOUCH OF COMEDY TO SOUTH SHIELDS EVENT

A POPULAR North East comedian will be following in his famous father’s footsteps when he performs at a magical event in October.

Finbar Healy has been revealed as the act entertaining delegates at The Late Show on Friday 11 October, as part of the South Tyneside International Magic Festival’s three-day convention.

And while it will be Finbar’s first appearance at the event, his late father, entertainer Brendan Healy, was on the bill of one of the very first festivals, back in 2006.

Finbar has forged a successful career as a comic, performing at comedy clubs and venues all over the North East, and even joining his father on stage at The Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre.

The evening will also be compered by Irish comedian and award-winning magician, Nevin Cody, who has more than 30 years of experience in the industry and was mentored by the late Paul Daniels.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Lead Member for Culture and Leisure at South Tyneside Council, is confident the evening will be a great success.

“Brendan Healy was a huge hit when he performed at the festival and I have no doubt that Finbar will prove to be just as popular this year,” said Cllr Kerr.

“We are also delighted to be welcoming Nevin Cody to host the evening, as he is a fantastic entertainer who I am sure he will put on a great show for the audience.

“The Late Show is always one of the highlights of the event and with two big personalities lined up, the delegates are certain to have an amazing evening.”

The South Tyneside International Magic Festival takes place from 10 to 13 October, with a number of lectures, workshops and gala shows for visitors to make the most of.

Magicians from around the world are travelling to South Shields to take part, including Xulio Merino, Mike Pisciotta, Olmac, Maga Gisell, Richard Jones, Steve Hewlett, Mark Shortland, Safire, Mario “the Maker Magician” Marchese, Laura London, R. Paul Wilson, Nate Staniforth, Matricks and Adam Black.

The event is organised by South Tyneside Council and magician, Steve Gore, with support from BBC Newcastle and sponsored by The Customs House and Magicbox.

Convention tickets, which include entry to The Late Show are currently on sale for £65. For more information on the festival or to book a place, visit www.southtyneside.gov.uk/magicfestival.
