Hey folks,
So it's my girlfriend, nay, finance's birthday soon and her twin sister, and I get to meet 'the folks' for the first time! I wanted to do something special, I thought about playing the guitar, or the ukulele, but I opted for magic, none of which I've done for ages but decided magic would be the biggest and easiest satisfier for the crowd.
I dug out a bunch of my favourite self workers from the DVD “Automata” (Gary Jones and Chris Congreave – which I totally can't rate high enough, like 10 out of five stars)
However, I also found a little gimmick in my box of tricks that is so simple and easy, I think I found it in a tourist shop some-place 'for kids' at the price of 1.99 or something ridiculous and it is such a crowd pleaser – given the right banter. (If you've seen my previous posts you'll now I consider that banter (Sorry Mandrake – Meaningful and magical chat and audience engagement) is all all important and totally crucial. I see people performing the most amazing tricks and letting me down with their patter but we won't go there. I have no place to comment as I'm no pro'.
My question to all you lovely folk tho' is this:
What is your totally favourite / best trick / gimmick / thing that you won from a christmas cracker, got in a shop for £1.99 / or whatever... and gets the biggest smiles and wows compared to anything you bought for £199.99 after seeing an advert, or just thought you might like to try it.
We all know that it's smoke an mirrors and IT and and blue-tack and banter, combined with some of those geniuses out there whom really work out an amazing effect but I want to know which 'Christmas cracker' (cheap as..... or home made) tricks make you and your audience feel most like Penn and Teller … really easy nonsense self workers
I know we shouldn't technically reveal how tricks work on this board but (moderators?)
I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
