Ipswich Magical Society Convention: 2005

Postby bananafish » Jul 21st, '05, 12:41

The Event: The Ipswich Magical Society Convention 2005. aka. "The Friendly One"
Date: Sunday October 23rd 2005.
Venue: Needham Market (Between Ipswich and Stowmarket)

I know it's early days yet - but we have now confirmed all the acts that will appearing for for this one day convention. I have only been to the last two, but I can guarantee it will be a very special day.

Full details can be found here. IMS Convention 2005

Amongst the performers this year we have...

* Jon Allen, Lecture, Close-Up and Evening Show.
Jon of course needs no introduction from me, as apart from a brilliant innovator (the man behind Double Back and The Silent Treatment (to name a few) he is also an awesome award winning magician in his own right..

* Scott Penrose, Lecture, Close-Up and Evening Show.
I think everyone knows of Scott Penrose, and in October will be a great opportunity to see such a classy and stylish magician lecture and perform.

* Scott Creasey, Lecture, Close-Up and Evening Show.
If you have any interest in Mentalism, the Scott Creasey will be a name you will have heard about as one of his numerous innventions was the now classic BIP Book, now updated of course to the BIP2. What you may not know about Scott Creasey though is that as well as the mentalism he is also an acomplished magician, and a master escapologist...

* Michael Pearse, Evening Show.
If you were at the TopSecretMagic Convention this year, then you will have seen Michael Pearse's zany, funny and skilled juggling act. I could watch this man perform all day long, and it is a real privilidge to have him perform at this years convention.

* Steve Kovarez and Co., Evening Show.
What would a magic show be with out a great illuson act? Well Steve Kovarez fits the bill perfectly. This is an act that will be just that little bit different, and I have no doubt that it will be a fitting end to a great day of magic.

There are of course other performers. We have professional comedian Richard Whymark comparing again, and by popular demand Matt Edwards will be perfoming in this years evening show. Last year he did a close up slot that people just couldn't stop talking about.

And as if that isn't all enough, we even have TalkMagic's very own Karl Jeffery (aka Puppet Man) performing his vent act.

As I said before. I know it's still early, but if you need any more information - please get in touch with me. I already know of several TalkMagic Members attending and nearer the time I will perhaps post a list. This could end up being a mini TalkMagic meet. Remember Cambridge, London, Norwich - they are all just a stone throw away...

Oh yes, before I forget - for all CUPS sufferers, some of the Dealers on the day will include...
    Alakazam (Peter Nardi)
    Aquarius
Kaymar (if they are still trading)
    Camtryx
    The Card Collection
    Myth and Magic
    Studio 9
    Anthony Brahms

I will definitely try to come - will have to try to convince my father to drive me there though :).

Still, it's better than trying to get him to go to Blackpool in February   :P.

Yippee!

Wife says that I can make this event.

If you need a lift - have to pass through (or near) Cambridge on way from Staffs,

That's an offer to anyone whose doors I might pass along the A14 and on towards the East.

(Kati) Should add, don't know how old you are and whether offer is 'safe' in terms of fact that have just thought that this probably isn't much difference between this and chat romm to some extent.

Anyway - any appropriate requirements for lift considered and where possible met,

Vic

Just letting me know either via pm or through this thread is enough for a reserved place. I won't be printing any tickets until september.

I hope you guys can make it. It will be good to meet you, but that aside it really will be a great day of magic.

Remember as well that the evening show is open to the general public and should be enjoyable by all lovely assistants or those that must be obeyed. (god bless their little cotton socks)

oh yes - and thanks vic for offerning to pick people up along the A14. It sounds like a very generous offer.

Sounds like a good day :) I'd love to make it, but I'm not sure it will be viable because I'll be at Uni then and will have to make a big trip out of it. I'll know closer to the time, but I'd love to come.

All the best,

Out of curiosity, when does the evening show end? Just like to know ;).

It will be between 10pm and 10:30pm.

The tickets for the evening show are available separately as well, so if you want extra evening show tickets for friends and family that won't be a problem.

Actually, that might work better!

If I got my dad to come along for the evening show, then I wouldn't have to worry about him coming on time as I'll be with him :D.

I'll let you know but I've already asked for (and received permission) to go so at the very least I can go to the rest of the event...yay!

Now I need to start saving...

Excellent idea. A lot of people are doing that. Going to the day by themselves, and meeting up with spouses/parents/family/firends for the evening show.

As an abbsolute noob to magic
( mainly self working stuff and gimmicks, Hopeless at palming
concealing, false passes ( i.e real magic ))
Is this event worth going to or am I just going to be intimidated
and depressed at all the amazing stuff happening.
Just wondering as its a bit of a trek from the N.E should I wait
for something closer or until I have some talent

Thanks in advance for any advice guys and gals

leviticus, I have no doubt whatsoever that you would have a great time. There will be a great line up, plus many like minded people of all skill levels to chat to throughout the day.

There will also be magic dealers there - eager to demonstrate any effect you wish and obviously to take your money.

I have to say though that it is a long way for you to come, and there are other conventions throughout the year that are nearer to you. You have already missed what sounded like a great convention in south tyneside.
