The only , still in print book, I know on making Vent Dolls is Ventriloquism by Kevin Davie.Published by Magic Inc.1978 then reprinted in 1980 and 1981. It can be purchased from Don & Betty Wallace's Magic Books By Post, Bristol at £6. It has 16 pages, with illustrations on constructing figures. Our props man at the theatre made my first doll, Nutty, ( bought second hand in 1945 by my parents) a new body from the book. Kevin Davie also gives several pages WITH ILLUSTRATIONS on the correct tongue positions for the labials. as B P V W F & M. The only other book I came across providing this information(AND for me
the definitive book) The ABC of Ventriloquism by Douglas Craggs, MIMC. & Hon Vice Pres. of Magic Circle. Mr. Craggs has a brother, Paul Clive who had a stand on Central Pier, Blackpool, a shop on Central Drive (my first magic set came from here in 1944) and a big shop on the North Pier, where I used to spend all my holidays. He also had a branch in London. Again my parents bought a wartime printed copy in 1945, from Davenports. I really wanted it for the large Glossary of jokes and dialogue routines but the labials info and illustrations were invaluable. 3 months ago a second hand book finder obtained the 1966, Faber & Faber Ltd., revised reprint in hardback for me. Just in time as the wartime paper is wearing very thin.
