I am a full-time magician and do well. You do need to travel a bit though  Advertising can get a bit expensive as well. I would not want to do anything else really.

No i am not famous. It is just a case of setting the prices at the right level and attracting the type of clients who pay more.

I have a very busy day. I am currently sending emails to potential clients, i then look through the lastest magic supplies on websites and decide if i want to order anything new. I then have paperwork to do. After that i tend to practise routines.

I was just asking becuase when I was younger, I went through phases of doing magic non-stop, then not doing it at all as I get quite bored.

Not any more though

"Do well" is a bit subjective - how much exactly does a magician earn per year who 'does well' ?

Or even 'approximately' if you think the tax man is watching

Also, how many gigs do you do a day or a week and how much on average do you charge ?

Do you get most of your work by word of mouth, paper ads, website response or entertainment agency ?

Is most of your work corporate close-up, kids shows, trade shows, restaurants ? or another category I can't immediately think of ? :P

My adverts are a combination of website (corporate magicians.com), paper adverts, word of mouth. Leaflets and brochures. I do mainly close-up, table hopping and a stage mentalism show. Corporate, restaurants and private clients. I do not use an agent at the moment but i have been approached by one so i am considering it.

Charges vary depending on venue size, location etc etc :D

I notice you've neatly sidestepped the annual earnings question ?

Come on - how much does a pro magician like you earn in an average year ?

In order for me to go full-time pro I would need to earn at least £50k per year (I currently earn over £70k per year in IT Recruitment) so would it be worth my while ?

Ok! i don't get £50K but i can live, eat and have a jolly good time ( regular holiday's twice a year, nice car etc). Fee could range from £50 -60 for a small private gig to many hundreds (maybe even £1k) for larger corporate events.
