Got mine in my pocket right now 8)

I prefer to use it for close up situations to do "impromptu" effects. However, when I am doing something big I usually use other prediction methods. Even so, I have put my super sharpie to constant use, and love it to bits.

I've replaced the ink once, I used the innards of another sharpie, and aside from some stained hands, all went pretty smoothly.

The only gripe I have about the thing is that the fidgety bit doesn't always want to come off smoothly. Which isn't really a big deal, just a little annoying. Oh, and it's expensive. Other than that, all thumbs up.

In the real world you are generally in 'party / bar / banquet' situations where there is a lot of background noise. Don't worry, it's never heard

I would recommend the full size SS over the tiddly one.

Why?

Because the last thing you want the spectator to think about is 'small pens'.

The moment they start thinking about 'small pens', you're going to get the spectator suggesting that you've got a 'small pen hidden in your hand'.

Well, it happened to me once. The spectator said something like, 'You must have written that afterwards with a small pen.' (In this case, I was using the full size SS, so clearly the spectator just came up with the idea themselves.)

Yes, I know: with correct presentation etc... but part of presentation is not giving the spectator 'clues' that encourage them to think of the real method. Ideally with mentalism they won't think about physical methods at all, but from time to time you're going to get a spectator who is just too suspicious to accept the idea that you can really read their thoughts or influence them or whatever.

A separate point: someone above suggested that a replacement ink thingy will be difficult to find for the tiny SS. In fact, mini Sharpies are now easily available in the UK in Rymans, art shops etc.

I constantly struggled with mine... It wouldn't stay put (not giving anything away) however I attempted to make it work for a long long time until one day I'd lost the pen! I must have handed it out and never got it back! I wouldn't rush to buy a new one. :?

I agree the "thing" can be tempremental and I'm trying to find the best way to get it to stick. Experimenting with magicians wax at the mo which is not bad but I'm sure there's a better solution out there.

The sticky putty that comes with the pen is the best thing to use. Any other sticky putty used for IT works well (not really wax).

Other than that I have also successfully used blu tac.

You only need a millimetre ball which you spread across making a thin film otherwise it is too wobbly on your T.

As the writer is between yout T & your pad/card most of the time you actually need very little stickiness as the pressure keeps it on

Looking around on the web, I've found surprisingly few shops selling them. Though I did only have a quick look. Is it possible that they've stopped making them, and shops are just selling the last of their stock?

Does anybody know for sure that production hasn't discontinued?

I asked Chris at MagicSmith who make them if they are discontinued & here is his answer:

"Hi Kevin,
That's interesting - wonder where they got that idea from? Hmmmm - rumors. Not true
at all. Hope all is well.

Best,
Chris

LIAR!

HE'S LYING!!!!!!!

Only joking. I know absolutely nothing about it whatsoever. I just read someone's suggestion that there seemed to be few around, then googled a bit (and tried the Magic Box website) and found that they weren't exactly 'all over google like the plague'.

I for one am very grateful to Mr Cann and Mr Chris for the info. I was thinking maybe I should 'stock up' buy purr-chasing a spare of this (in my opinion) awesome object -- something which I can 'ill afford to do'.

It's great that this site is so intimate. You're never more than two keystrokes away from the creator or inventor or makerer of somesuch prop or other. The wonder of the internet!

On a different note: Didn't Derren use one of these in his optician thingy?

if they are still in production then I want one

I know a few dealers who no longer stock them and I heard from Worldmagicshop that MagicSmith have pulled a load of their products!???

I wasn't saying anything as Gospel I just know I have found it uber hard to locate a super sharpie - ok thats maybe a tad dramatic...

But every time I do a search I see they are out of stock, so that kind of backed what I had heard.

By chance, where are they being stocked as I will go place an order this instant?
