Ok i have a problem with mine, i think i ordered it at MJM magic, and the black putty it came with is very very messy, messy like i have my thumb covered in black residue after using it, same if i put the SS in my pocket the black putty wears off on anything, clothers, money etc. Is that normal and should be more carefull or should i buy an other black putty ? :)

or is it worth a go now?

Personally I think mini pens aren't used that much by the general public & would therefore raise some suspicion. I would stick with the ordinary size personally.

Sorry, can't help. Mine came with a manufactured (not post coloured) blue putty.

Note to mods: WHAT GIVES? Is this a british site, or what? The automatic spell check is in American English. It highlights the word 'coloured', but not 'colored'.

It's based in the UK but we don't have a spell checker - unfortunately  !

Bit of an old thread....

Given that the lay public will generally not know what a swami is, or what a NW is, and given that there's been some explicit discussion thus far in this thread, what I'm about to ask hopefully won't be too insightful. I know that this is designed to be "hidden in plain sight", and that due to this it will aid putting it on and ditching, with the gimmick being part of the Sharpie...

More pressingly, for my purposes, from the videos the effect seems designed for the premise that 1.) You clearly write prediction in full view 2.) Spectator states number / word 3.) Performer reveals visible prediction

However, whilst this is great (having heard arguments here and on The Cafe about it being apparently overpriced, insecure at times, etc), what if you wanted to secretly write? That is, you do not flag up the fact that you are going to write a prediction down, and simply reveal a prediction out of your wallet?

Q: Can Super Sharpie do this? I know it seems you have to take a cap off or something: as prep (if not wanting to reveal that you are about to write), could you secretly take the secret thingy off on the fly and then use that gimmick to write secretly, e.g. using the Outlaw Showdown wallet? Specifically, the routine I want to do is Post It Note Attached To Bill, but using Super Sharpie rather than traditional Swami (the latter of which I have).

Again, this may be magician's guilt, but the idea of randomly pulling out a pencil having used a Sharpie thus far to perform effects seems inconsistent.

Further, whilst I may well be using the gimmick contrary to how it was intended to be used, ultimately I want a Sharpie swami, and whilst I'm sure you could probably make one, I do want to purchase this effect, as well as for its instructions on how to deconstruct Sharpies!

Black putty - just use blue tac or the putty that comes with a lot of IT stuff instead

The gimmick is designed to be used as part of the handling of the pen. If you want to use it for PW or use with a wallet etc. as a pre-determined prediction rather than an immediate prediction it would be difficult as you wouldn't want a pen anywhere in sight and once the gimmick is removed from the pen it would start to dry out fairly quickly and needs to be replaced with the pen in order to re-ink.

If you could use the sharpie as part of the routine or a routine immediately before the PW one you could do it. Writing with it is just like using any other boon except that it is a felt tip pen so the issues are drying out, re-inking and not getting the ink in your pocket or on your clothes which is why it is best used with the sharpie as part of the routine

I've taken the plunge and ordered it as part of the Alakazam 15% off deal, which was enough imbalance to nudge me over the fence, so should get it this week.

Your third paragraph reassures me, as I'd imagine it'd be easy to remember to routine the use of a Sharpie prior to the effect in mind. Bearing in mind the reported difficulties, however, this may well be an excellent prelude to handing out a business card, and whilst pretty lax in handing them out as of late in a social / going out settings, this may well be the perfect excuse to get cards in hand.

I will see how practical it is for pre-determine predictions, which is the main reason for purchase. The main effect as intended for Super Sharpie will just be seen as a strong bonus effect!

thanks

Can anybody confirm that they still use it.

I know this is a kind of old thread that's recently been resurrected but I'm interested to know if this is still been used by the majority who purchased.I'm thinking of getting it soon but I'm afraid it may become a bottom drawer warmer.

I never use mine. I just find it kind of clumsy. To be fair, I never really practised with it, but I find it irritating to try to hold the you know what on my thumb without it ending up on the floor. Sure, I would find it easier with practise of course, but I'd rather practise something that doesn't irritate me, or result in inky hands.

And that's before we even get to the issue of writing with the thing.

Have recently bought a lead boon, which I think will be less irritating to use. Certainly it's less messy.

I have used mine for years. I still use it for several effects I perform at every gig I do.

It's so important that I have a spare but I could do with a spare for my spare so how much will you sell yours for Devil's Tailor ?

Hmm. Not sure how much they cost now. It's used, but I have replaced the internal thingy, not because I used it much but because I left the cap off. PM me?

I'm going to list mine for sale at £20 when I get around to it.

Absolutely! It's one of the best props I've ever brought. One in my close up case, one in one of my cabaret cases, one in my handbag and two spares in a cupboard - I'm never without it.
