Glass through table

Postby MagicTom » Nov 25th, '05, 17:56

The Effect

The magician says he will make a solid object penatrate the table. So then he places a coin on the table. (can be borrowed) He says that he will not touch the coin so he puts a glass over the coin. (Can be borrowed)Finally he says he will not even see the coin during the process. So he puts a hankerchief over the glass. (This can be borrowed but i prefer to use my own thick material for safety - You'll understand when / if you perform it. Apparently napkins work - I've never tried with napkins though.)
He then LIGHTLY taps the top of the glass (under the hankerchief), lifts up the glass and has failed. He tries again, and yet again fails. Finally he says "I dont think I'm tapping the glass hard enough" and with that smashes his hand down onto the glass. The glass seems to gone. He reaches down onto his lap and brings up the glass. (Optional whether you want to actually make the coin vanish by using your own technique)

Cost

Well its explained in "Mark Wilsons complete course in magic" of which varies in price depending on where you get it. I got mine of Amazon for about £10 i think.

Difficulty

Some sleights used. A few weeks practise and you'll have mastered it.

Review

I really like this. I do not specialise in close up but always like to have a few on hand in case someone says "show me some magic then" If I'm in the correct type of venue then i perform this one.
People are always amazed even if you dont actually vanish what you said you were gonna vanish however with a little bit of thought you can cleverly make the coin dissapear too.

Stunning trick when performed acurately.

Overall

Great trick. No gimmicks etc - All use of slieghts etc

There are 2 down sides to the trick....
1) You have to master your own way of making the coin vanish
2) You need to be sat at a table with nobody watching from behind you. (Unless you have some way of blocking this)

yeah. This is a good trick. It is also explained in "Street magic". A very good trick methinks.

Review

Postby MagicTom » Nov 25th, '05, 18:43

Thanks.

Well, i was recently warned that i should stop spending so much money on props which i will probably ditch once the next greatest gimmick comes in. And eventually i shall have so many props of which i will only use a "shows" worth of. They advised me to get a decent course kind of book (Such as Mark Wilsons Course...) and start learning tricks i can do without gimmicks etc

So i did. I refuse not to buy props. (haha) because i love magic props too much!

But i have started to read through and i picked up this one and loved it. So thats where that reveiw came from.

Thanks
Have a good weekend
Tom

Glass Thru Table

Postby Allen Tipton » Nov 26th, '05, 12:07

:) Magic Tom. You might care to check out Articles number 7 & 8 in my Dear Magician series in Abra. In these which were part of the routining process is The Glass Thru Table. You'll find advice on folding the paper, steaing the glass, re producing it and it's all done standing up at the table. Article 8 gives the patter and the full routine. If you cannot find it, e mail me.

the only slight problem is that alot of people have already seen this trick somewhere and somehow and they problely know the secret.
but really, IMO the trick is only 10%
the PRESENTATION is 90%,
even if they know what is coming, but you present it perfectly, they will be shocked they didnt see what you where doing

?!~

For crying out loud, the msn button under my name is to talk about magic with me, NOT A FREE MAGIC GIVEAWAY LINK. dont abuse it

"IMO the trick is only 10%
the PRESENTATION is 90%,"

As with most tricks..

Agreed.

Glass Thru Table.

Postby Allen Tipton » Dec 6th, '05, 12:47

:) See also the December issue of Stan Allen's Magic mag. Billy Mc Comb's column, near the end of the mag. It has the johnmny Platt version of Glass thru Table with a very valueable bit of misdirection to cover the steal.

Presentation

Postby Pitto » Dec 6th, '05, 15:21

If anyone wants to see a good example of a magician conquering the presentation go onto penguin and watch the demo for JC Wagner's commercial magic

This is one of my greatest tricks and naturally I do it better than anyone else.

However the thing that really makes it strong is the lead up to it that I do. It is a sort of Slydini one coin routine but not really since it came out of my own brilliant mind rather than Slydini's. However there is a fair bit of lapping involved and the routine is quite amazing in its own right.

However by finishing the routine with the glass thru table makes the reaction twice as strong. I recommend doing some sort of coin trick first. I suggest Slydini's one coin routine but don't drag it out too much before banging the glass through the table.
