Trance This! By Kenton Knepper

Postby i1011i » Dec 20th, '05, 21:57

The Effect

Trance This! Is jam packed full of brilliant and amazing ways to produce seeming and real trance states. Anyone who is a fan of Wonder Words or more importantly Kentonism (As this title is a derrivative of Kentonism 2) will LOVE this publication. For all whome are familure with The Ring, the original 'trance'-script is inside for the first time in ages.

Cost

$35 from Wonder Wizards directly. www.wonderwizards.com
27.99GBP from http://alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/Books_23.html

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Somewhat hard to guage. But this puppy is not for the novice or one without great presentation skills. I'd say 4 and the sleights are of the mouth variety.

(Although, if you know kentons work, it is pretty easy to integrate.)

Review

What can I say? Kenton has had a growing tradition with my wallet and now it's an official holiday. This has to be one of the best publications I have purchased, and believe me, I thought long and hard about doing this review. "Should I give it a bad review just to keep it for myself?" But alas, I could not do that to my fellow talkmagic group. I have not been as excited about new material in quite some time! This book not only offers some great ideas and routines, but all the material is easily transferable to new tricks or ideas. The applications and concepts are limitless if in the right hands.

How about putting someone into an instant trance? Or instantly removing phobias and names from the mind? And thats just the starter! Great for close-up or stage.

No NLP would be needed to boost the sales of this book for any psychological or mentalist performer. I would say even basic card magicians could get some fun and interesting ideas from this book.

But honestly, don't buy it. I don't want the compititon!

I do want to add the disclaimer, This material is NOT for everyone. If you know kenton's work then I would say go get it NOW. But if you have never picked up a book by him then this should not be the first purchase. This is a great follow up to Kentonism, Mind Reading, and obviously Wonder Words. If you own any of these titles then this book is a must. Otherwise spend your money on these first.

Overall

I give this a -------------[10/10]

Excellent review, I was thinking of buying this book next.
After reading 'Kentonism', I am hooked. His ideas are fantastic and have endless possibilities.
Is Trance This an extension of Kentonism in that it uses cards?

Kenton's stuff is brilliant. Though I have yet to get Trance This...I may pick it up direct from Wonder Wizards sometime as they have it as part of a very good deal at the moment.

What I have read of Kenton's stuff is fantastic and want to read more.
One dealer told me that the Wonder Words CD's are discontinued.
Has anyone else heard this?
Does anyone know if Kenton is planning to re-release them?

The Wonder Words CD's are something I have wanted to purchase for quite some time, but being rather expensive I have held back.
From all the accounts I have heard from people who have heard them, they are essential and sound just the sort of thing I would use.

Nope - still available. I think Wonder Wizards have just put out a special deal or something on them.

Check out: www.wonderwizards.com .

They are not essential at all.

I think they are great, but there are people who disagree. Derren Brown is obviously a bit underwhelmed, judging by a comment in one of his books.

Really?
For the sort of act I do - and I'm very into suggestion and hypnosis - they seem like a worthwhile investment. I was under the impression that Derren admired Kenton's stuff. Maybe I'm wrong!
