TalkMagic Enamel Badge

Postby bananafish » Feb 13th, '06, 11:21

Here's an idea that the MagicBunny forum came up with, and I thought I would bring it up here to see what your thoughts were.

Would anyone be interested in a small TalkMagic lapel enamel badge and if so how much would you be willing to pay for it?

I thought for example it would be a good way of noticing other talkmagic members at conventions and other meets.

Yes and, to use the time honoured magical phrase, not a lot. (Sorry, couldn't resist that!)

I'm not much of one for wearing pins or badges so not really sure how useful it would be but if we decide to go ahead I'd certainly buy one. Charity badges sell for a quid a time but they're made in quantity. There are quite a few active members here who might be interested so I guess a batch of 100 wouldn't be over the top - purchase could be quite simple, send £2.00 (or whatever) to whoever has the stock and one can be posted back. Initial finance for a batch isn't a problem, I can probably help with that if required.

If people are not that keen on wearing pins then maybe it would lbe better and look better to make pendants or something along those lines?

I quite like the idea of enamel. A playing card (Ace of Spades?) with TM as the indecies and Talk Magic across the 'Spade' in the center.

Could be quite a collector's item.

Somebody would have to make a better logo though I think - not sure that the current one would come out that well; it's basically just shadowed text.

Not too sure about a card logo as there are many members who don't do card stuff. The traditional wand/top hat etc might be a bit old fashioned as well. (Don't even think of suggesting 2 sponge balls - please!) I guess a rabbit would easily be assumed to be MagicBunny. Can't think of anything positive at the moment, sorry.

I'd be up for a badge. As for a logo, if everyone else is doing a picture on theirs, then perhaps words would stand out from the crowd. I notice the A in talk and magic is the second letter. Perhaps linking them would be good, and reminiscent of that perennial favorite the linking rings.

As it would be a TalkMagic badge then I feel the badge should reflect the logo at the top of the page.

Having said that maybe we should have a competition to redesign the logo? Obviously we would have to pass such an idea with the site owner, but assuming he is ok with it I see no reason why the logo shouldnet be changed.

As to cost. My local society recently organised some enamal badges being made for the society, and I must admt it sits well on a jacket. I will get back with a list of costs (as mandrake pointed out, the cost comes down the more you have done, so getting a rough idea of how many would be interested is quite important.

Idea?

Yes, the logo on the site really needs a facelift.

I contacted Lawrence ages ago about designing a 'skin'.

I now feel the need to ask, how many of us own and use a magic wand?

Or is that a little too personal?

Ooooh! It would be YOU! There's always one...

I chose a wand because it's an ambiguous magic symbol. Like a top-hat, but less fussy graphic-wise.
