I also have a few designs for a logo that I will post here for comment when I am ready. (what with Blackpool things are pretty busy at the moment.)

Nice, Kev.

However, when designing, you must consider your target media, and the logistics of such a design.

1. Fine detail + enamel badge = VERY expensive or near-impossible

2. Lots of colour = amplified expense curve

3. Shading and shadowing are near impossible. Solid colours only

4. Consider sizes, complexities and type... A badge is typically small, so the type needs to be bold and communicate from a distance

5. Consider the context: a generic design with little or no embelishment will fit in at any event, with any style of clothes

6. Choice of font: typography is very important. Large, bold letterforms work much better on enamel badges, and badges in general

7. Be seen! For the badge to stand out, it needs to be readable without someone leaning down and squinting at it.

It won't.

What you are trying to do is not possible with the words given without losing the readability.

Go down another route ;)

Another idea I had was to get a simple 'resin' badge, with a curved effect front like a rounded speech bubble:

I really do like that one, Seige. It's nice, it's modern, and it's SIMPLE!

I think kev's might be nice for the site logo though...

Personally I think that where possible we should try and keep the badge and logo the same - or at least recognisable as being the same. It's a kind of corporate idenitty thing really...

Indeed, and in aim with corporate identity, I've used Blue whenever I've been thinking of a logo—which matches the current site.

And funnily enough, the speech bubble was designed to be linked to the website too—could be a direct swap-out for the current badge?

if we are lookin at a corporate identity type thing what we need ( i say we i mean the site) is a logo like magic bunny have thier futuristic bunny and have that on the site and on the badge

Which is why I though a 'speech' bubble works well.

And it's non-cliche'd in terms of basic magic crud either.

(Branding 101: Do Sainsbury's put shopping trolleys on their logo? Does a box of M&Ms have a peanut for a logo?)

We don't need any bunnies to have a corporate identity. As an example, Seige's speech bubble would be fine, as would some of the other designs that members have been coming up with.

What we don't want is to infringe on the Magicunny logo in anyway. a) because it is theirs and not ours, b) because we can and should have our own identity.
