D'Lites

Postby Allen Tipton » Jan 24th, '08, 14:05

:) If you are keen on D'Lites do check out Jay Scott Berry's Fazer lights. These can be used like D'Lites and also switched on & off, thrown lit, from hand to hand etc. Jay also has a Circle of Lights wherein one light in the hand starts spinning in a circle then expands and expands with different colours; finally diminishing to one light again.
Merlin's sell an excellent length of 8 LED lights; 'Lights Fantastic' (£45)
These can be pulled lit from the mouth, the pocket, a box, bag or where you will.Self contained. Also combined with D'Lite or Fazer lights.
These different Lites/Lights won't really deceive an audience but they do help create a sense of wonder and have the 'ah' factor, used in an effective presentation & in the right hands.

also, I believe you can get a d'lite bag (available at JB Magic I think?) which is very expensive, but looks really nice, you can 'throw' a d'lite across the stage, and it will land in this bag. Very pretty by the looks of it.

I think d'lites are a bit underestimated. If you get a nice set of blue ones, and get the mood and patter right, you can 'summon spirits' or such like to help with any manner of mentalist tricks, or spooky tricks, or anything that it might go well with.

D'LIte

:) :) And my closest friend, last year, made up a champagne bucket( for his friends pro act). Into this the blue delights were dropped( as in Miser's Dream The bucket then lit up. The lights were'thrown' at the backcloth which also lit up with glittering 'stars'.
Now that's a sense of Magic & Wonder. :D   :!:

I quite like Finger Fazers. I opted for them over D'Lites (and similar), partly because of the latter's ubiquity.

I am a huge admirer of Jay Scott Berry's work, and the 'Light Fantastic' DVD about Finger Fazers is excellent, although I think some of the moves and effects aren't very magical, and are actually a bit obvious.

I didn't like the colour-changing Spectra Fazer, though. Not as neat to handle as the Finger Fazer, and the yellow phase of the colour change was very poor.

I think it was Sean Fields in "Explicit Content" who suggested using a red D'Lite to produce a hot-looking glow when doing metal bending. It may also have been the same book that used a D'Lite and noisemaker to give an audiovisual effect at the moment a thought was transferred between spectator and mentalist.

Fazers and D'Lites complement each other nicely, although D'Lites just about win overall. The problem with Fazers as Part-Timer points out is that much what you do with them looks exactly like what it is, ie. a little light that you hold in your hand. When combined however you can really throw people off the scent and create some genuine magic.

I've recently acquired a pair of D'Lites, after buying the 'Protons' DVD, and I agree with bronz that the D'Lite has the edge. He's also right that the two (D'Lites and Finger Fazers) in combination are even better.

l.e.d-lites

Postby Brannmanndan » Sep 27th, '08, 20:41

if you're buying them make sure you spend the extra tenner on roccos version simply called d-lites. the other version for cheaper are called l.e.d-lites. they have a bigger tt and easier to spot as well as being less comfortable. but that's just my opinion.

I like how there is a lot of different kinds of the Dlite. It stops it getting boring and people working out how you did it.
