This is bad. I too have fallen today  Let us all eat our magic cakes and vow to beat CUPS

For the benefit of our new member AJ82 i should explain the references to magic cakes is a joke. You know how support groups normally have tea and cakes, well we say that as a joke.

Thanks Stephen but can I have cookies? (Me trying to crack a joke)

Well done, be strong brother.

Oh no wait. You mean you nearly spent £300, but held on and resisted, and only spent £299 don't you...

I can feel the CUPS talking.

May I propose a mantra for the benefit of the group?

"I must not spend any more until I learn more and perform more with what I have - including the stuff that's been sitting on the shelf for ages. Om."

Time for some more magic cakes, and back to learning wand spins to stop me looking at ebay.

Hi everyone, my name's Bobby and I'm a "cup-o-holic"...

I would love to chat more but there's a magic DVD on eBay at the moment and it's calling my name so... gotta run!

stephenmagic, I guess Bobby didn't like our cakes. You should have offered him some of greedoniz's home baked cookies.

AJ82, don't worry about anything. The longer you stay away from magic shops and sites like these, the more wealthier you'll become

Steverino, I am very pleased with your attitude, some of the members here would do well if they followed in your footsteps. Yes, it is either that you are making a very strong stand against CUPS or you have no more money in the bank like me
P.S You mentioned something about wand spins; where is a good source that will give me some guidance about technique. Can the same techniques in pen spinning be adapted to a wand.

Mainly the latter. No money at all, and living in fear of the credit card bill.

I'm trying to think of a reference that won't require any money to be spent...

There's two types of wand spin I'm trying to learn, firstly the drummers' spin, which should be easy to find references for - essentially the wand makes one full revolution around the thumb. The exact technique probably isn't very important as long as it's done smoothly and naturally. It feels impossible at first, but a bit of work seems to make it glide around the thumb (and then sometimes fly off at a wierd tangent  ) Any flourishes website should be able to give you a basic guide, although you'll probably find a longer wand with a bit of weight to it will be easier to use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pen_twirling . Plus a weightier wand flying off at random angles tends to make people respect the space your magic practice requires

The second, which is slightly more esoteric is the Vernon wand spin, which can be used for a very clever vanish, and looks as though it needs to be followed more exactly due to the nature of the vanish. Best do a google to find material that teaches this, as I'm not aware of any free resources, and don't want to lead a brother astray in this thread... You're most likely to find a guide to this in material that teaches Vernon's cups and balls routine.

hehe, when I have these working okay in both hands I'll be happy :)

Thanks for that Steverino, that's going to be really helpful :D! According to the link you sent me, the one that you're practising is the Charge - that one seems quite difficult. It seems to me now that I had been trying to work on the FingerPass and the ThumbAround. Doing the FingerPass felt like I was going to break the bones in my fingers after a while and the ThumbAround assisted my wand in trying to assassinate me by giving me a merciless blow to the head! I was starting to wonder if the latter move can be accomplished with this heavy wand of mine or am I unnecessarily putting my life in grave danger by attempting it? Either way, if I do knock myself out; I will be doing my savings account a great favour

About the Vernon Wand Spin it is unfortunate that I have only seen in it in the past included within a couple of DVDs featuring a Cups & Balls routine like you said, and I don’t want to get lured into buying Cups & Balls now because there are so many wonderful items you can get to dress up that routine like Wooden Cups, Aluminium Cups, Brass Cups, Copper Cups, Little Turtle Cups! I tell you it’s going to raise havoc with my CUPS! The name of the routine says it all: CUPS! We sufferers should definitely stay away from that routine! Now if you excuse me I am going to go and beat myself over the head with my wand!
