I say that this would be a better trick to do while puting on a live show and bring out a humungous deck of cards to add a little humor to it.

<FONT COLOR="0000ff">I love it! But like nathan said at the beginning it's not examinable. So I looked and I found one called the ethereal deck it's not examinable but you can spread them out on the table to show all the cards. I am seriously thinkin' of buying it.

good effect, but i don't really like gimmicked decks because they're not examinable. As with any deck that isn't examinable the best thing to do is a couple of tricks with a normal deck and then switch the decks (obviously both decks must look the same and the audience mustn't notice).

Sorry Chris, but although I too am not a keen fan of gimmicked decks, you've got to LOVE the ID.

People simply cannot explain it... there is no conceivable way their card can possibly be reversed... It is an awesome effect and simply popping the deck back into your pocket immediately after the effect, whilst they're reeling backwards in awe, gives you all the time (and opportunity) to make a clean switch.

... Tony

PS. If you're new to this board, do you mind me inquiring where you heard of us, only this site has been pretty quiet for a while now?

... Just Curious :-)

Not so sure about "performing hundreds of times without them figuring it out" - I watched a guy do it at a dinner party and by the sixth or seventh repeat a few of the brighter (and less sozzled!) ones had some pretty good theories as to how it was being done.

Buy a can of ruff 'n' smooth spray to revitalise your tired deck - has other uses too.

I agree but i think it should be done in a routine to save you performing the trick over and over again

As with many effects, performing more that once to the same audience is dangerous (unless there are several handlings which you can vary...)

The audience will burn you every step of the way the second time, and although it's tempting with tricks such as ID or Brainwave Deck because they are so astounding, it may be prudent to leave the audience with more mystery.

The first time you perform any trick to an audience, it is a positive thought to remember that they do not know what is coming... therefore you've nothing to hide. The best tricks are the ones where you are so far ahead of the audience that all that's left to do is lay down your patter and enjoy the rest of the performance... BUT - if you repeat the same effect instantly, there's always a danger that someone will notice that 'move' which will kill the effect.

Remember, also, that every member of your audience is potentially out to catch you out...

Most decent magic stores sell the item you require...

Emagictricks.co.uk certainly do...

Some tips:

1: Well ventilated area!
2: Only a light 'dusting' needed!
3: Leave them quite some time afterwards to dry

I've just purchased this trick and really like it. I haven't performed it yet as I am still praticing how to spread the cards. (any help here would be much appreciated!. However I do like the idea of transferring the deck behind my back before showing the finale.

a) It gives me time to work things out
b) I can move the joker to the other end of the pack if need be - which I think will help with the illusion (do any 'real' magicians do this).
c) I like the idea of misdirecting everyone into thinking they know how the trick is done. It reminds me of the "Color Vision" box where every one thinks that you are feeling your way to get the answer whereas in fact the trick is so much simpler than that.

I've seen brad christian do this on his website. I think his version is the best i've seen so far it takes a while for the effect to unravel so it it keeps whoevers whatching guessing about whats about to happen.

Having played with these for a few weeks now, I totally agree with Seige 8) in that it should only ever be performed to the same set of people once, but that is a general rule I think that applies to most magic. There is very little magic that I would feel confident doing more than once to the same people.

When I do this trick now I also have a couple of svengali/mirage deck in one pocket and the ID in the other, just on the off chance that they might pick the actual svangali card. If this does happen it's really awesome. I take the svengali pack out instead of the invisible and riffle through it getting them to pick their card - which is of course the same one thay they picked out when the cards were invisible...

Addmitidly this has only happened once so far, but was very impressive. In saying that - people are just as impressed with the ID trick, but it does means that I can do it again with the same people and show two amazing tricks...

just an idea.

If you're ID magic is getting old-hat... try either the Brainwave deck, or the awesome 'X' by Jay Sankey.

Sankey's 'X' converts a regular ID into a totally different trick - which is more amazing and has twice the impact of the standard presentation.

The Brainwave deck is very similar, but the revelation is that you're selected 'thought of' card has a different coloured back to the other cards in the deck.

Sankey's 'X' is on volume 2 of Sankey's Secret files
