Calling Card By Rodger Lovins

Postby Rdw1971 » Mar 16th, '06, 23:33

The Effect

What they say:

They choose a card. It becomes a blank.

They hold the blank up near their face

You take a photo of their face and the blank card with your cell phone.

In the photo the blank becomes their card!

Wow!

The blank card they are holding becomes the chosen card in the cell phone photo!

Yes, the picture is of the spectator holding their chosen card!

Review

Well I done it again - I couldnt wait for someone else to do a review and CUPS kicked in and I bought it.

What a GREAT trick. As with most tricks, once you know the secret you'll kick yourself.

Basically force a cad, then switch with a blank one. Take the photo on you mobile, with the spec holding the blank (would even work on a normal digital camera) and Hey Presto - the spec is holding their card.

Very impressed with this, due to the simplicity and the thinking behind it.

Overall

I think this is great, I laughed outloud when I got it. Well done Mr Lovins, you deserve to make a fortune.

Only downside I feel, is that the asking price of nearly £20 could be cut to about a tenner.

8 out of 10 (price lets it down) but cool as a polar bears bum.

Nice review. I saw this but thought it was expensive. It is a fun trick though, the principle is not really new.

Is your phone examinable when you show the photo or are you safer if you hang onto it?

With a bit of 'tinkering' you can hand your phone out for examination.

Still amazed at how good this is.

Oh OK. That sounds better. I was worried that the method might have been a bit too obvious.

do you get a gimmick with this effect or is it just instructions?

I like the trick but it must be said that a good hard stare at the phone could well give the effect away.

You cannot hand them the phone and ditching would not be a super-easy option but you could work something out if you are determined.

Martin I think your suspicions are right but that isn't to say this is a bad effect, it just needs some solid management skills.

You do get a "thing" as well as instructions/routine. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when people see it, many people kicking themselves would be funny to see, others will cheer and maybe some will shove the jiffy bag back out through the letterbox!

Some cameras will yeild better results than others but it is difficult to explain why without exposing method. This "some better than others" aspect is mainly down to physical properties of the phone and not electronic or anything technological.

It is a dead-easy trick but full on practice and spectator management will get you proper results...just because it's easy isn't a reason to be lazy.

Sorry...that sounded very parental...now go clean you room!

calling card

Not impressed! there are better ways of doing this trick -if you visit the nokia website you can download a programme for picture phones which you can add in a`card so that you can actually send them a picture of them holding thier card

Think this is a bit basic

type of phone and nokia link

Postby chris1982 » Apr 3rd, '06, 01:28

Hi. This is my first post but am very interested in purchasing this trick. Scared though that I will be disappointed. Also, was wondering if it mattered what type of phone you had, and was wondering if I could get the link to the Nokia page that would allow me to download a pic to my phone. Thanks

Just had a email from Rodger, Criss Angel performs this on Mindfreak (think on the new series)

If its good enough for TV, its gotta be OK for us lesser mortals

it doesnt work well on my phone - as tom hinted it will depend on your phone/camera. i worked the method out before i bought the trick and liked the idea, but knew it could have some drawbacks, it could work well on some phones, but not mine!
i think linda has a good point, it is very easy to do with software and so not that amazing for some people, when i tried calling card on a friend he instantly sussed the method and i only gave him a very quick 'flash' of the pic.
i would like to see this on other phones, to see if the effect works better as i think the idea is cute, but not as amazing as the ad blurb makes out.

could someone please tell me what CUPS means - i think i suffer from this disease very badly and would like to know its full name so that i may start on the road to recovery :)
