I have an application for the Magic Circle and am seeking ideas for a routine for my 10-15minute audition slot.

I pretty adept at coins and have some great mentalism effects alongside a good understanding of many aspects of close up magic.

Obviously no one auditioning for the Magic Circle is going to wow the examiners with their audition pieces but I would appreciate some members ideas for my big day!

Thanks

Search through your collection, find some stuff that packs a punch and is loosely linked. Be yourself and be confident, everytihng else should fall into place so long as you dont over do yourself or push yourself beyond your abilities at this point.

I disagree. Whilst they may have seen thousands of tricks in their time, it's the person that makes the wow factor and you should think along these lines for the best possible impact during your audition.

My advice wouldnt be to mix the mentalism with the magic. choose one or the other.

From my experience, the magic circle prefer to see more skill based routines, so although good mentalism can get you in, traditional in this case may serve you better.

I would also avoid doing any self working packet tricks. These may kill laymen, but it isn't what the magic circle looks for at the auditions (IMO).

Once you have your routine ideas sorted, I would also tend to discuss it with someone at the magic circle who knows more, someone like Graham Reed. Just to be on the safe side.

I am sure though, whatever you do will be fine. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for their tips, taken on board all your views and will be a help when I decide which routine to use.

Packet tricks are really not my thing although I do recognise their value, especially for walkaround.

I have quite a few friends within the MC and will also be using their experience and ideas, so thanks for your help.

Any members of the Magic Circle here?

I'm interested to find out if there's any difference between an audition for the MC and an audition for a mgaic society, other than the standard will no doubt be higher?

DO NOT GET ME WRONG SOME OF THE BEST PERFORMERS IN THE WORLD ARE IN THE MAGIC CIRCLE

BUT

My advice is also, don't worry about, it is famous place but I don't think you have to amazing. I went to their Christmas show 2005 and some of the close up performers were either not very good or doing very basic sleights glide, dl etc. Some stage people weren't to good either, with tyhe acception of John Archer. Have fun, I expect they're on your side and want you to do well.

Cheers,
