Where is the magic?

Postby Miles More Magic » Mar 21st, '06, 01:31

It seems odd that there are so many forum sections in here, with 1/2 dozen or so in the Secrets Area, Yet the forms that magic take, are under "miscellaneous"

Where are the close-up, stage, childrens section, etc.

They all seem to be chucked into one part, stuck halfway down the page.

It's almost as if everything else takes priority, except the magic itself.

Not sure of your point.

I have seen arguments against creating more forums, due to it cluttering up the board.
But why do you need a "for sale" and a "wanted" forum.
Couldn't these be combined.
The same goes for having 2 review sections.
Surely if someone asks for a review, it is much easier answering on the same forum, rather than having to start a new thread on another one?

Then you could put close up, childrens magic etc, in their place, as these have been requested before.

Now do you see why it seems as if you don't give enough thought on the types of magic?

We'd end up with another Magic Cafe on our hands, is why.

This forum is small, compact, and at least 90% of current members find it fantastic*

What's nice about this forum is it's communal, and friendly, and because of it's size and organisation, it keeps ITSELF tidy without hours and hours of moderation time.

If we were to list ALL genres of magic, the whole thing would look like a patchwork quilt, as there are so many avenues and topics.

Currently, our comfortable user base and good search facility seem to bridge the gap.

*survey based on pure guesswork and general ambience, and has nothing to do with a factual show of hands ;)

That's the good thing about having one Misc. Forum instead of many different fora (yes, it's right) for different types of magic we have one. If you actually count up the number of threads that we have on each branch of magic, you'll see that there aren't nearly enough to justify having a new forum.

You'd think that having one Trading Forum like on the evil enemy forum () would be better than having two, but if you actually look at how many threads there are on each one it does seem to work.

The only comment I have is that possibly we don't need quite so many MO area fora as it seems that most of the site is restricted!

This forum is perfect. Enough said from me. Infact, if I would have anything to put my finger on, it would be I find it to have TOO many sub-forums, but it's not a huge problem. It's not like other sites....

Oh, no it isn't. :D

This forum is small, yet perfectly formed.

Kati...

Afraid you're wrong, but technically you are right-ish.

If we were all Latin, we'd say 'fora'. However, the English language plural of 'forum' is 'forums'. And as this is an English speaking forum, the plural is therefore Forums.

Besides, fora just sounds wrong!

Fora sounds to me like a low fat spread, but then again (here it comes) I can't tell talk from mutter.

I'll get me coat...

If any of the areas need removing then it’s the forum requests one. Has anything in here ever been used?

:D

OK, so it's not correct. I admit defeat.

You must all now say "octopodes" instead of "octopi".

Kati

P.S. Octopus is originally a Greek word so the Latin plural 'octopi' can't be right. It's either octopuses or octopodes.

So, this thread isn't 'using' this section?

Many of the ideas here have been used. Perhaps you hadn't been bothered to trawl through them, because they weren't explicitly categorised ???

Whilst we always keep the style and shape of TM under review, there's never been any serious need or requests to remove any section as such - with perhaps the exception of a couple of old areas which were no longer used and which were moved out of the Public Area - just a bit of housekeeping really. Several new areas have been introduced as a result of a thread in here and subsequent discussion but we don’t tend to open new areas all that often.
