I am completely new to magic, never tried a trick in my life before and certainly have never performed infront of an audience in the past.

I have started off with the aim of only learning a few tricks that I can perform in the pub/bar or street which leads me to coin magic more than anything, as carrying a pack of cards around with me on a night out doesn't really appeal too much to me.

So...The other day I decided to bite the bullet and purchased the Criss Angel "Coin in a can" DVD. Well, what can I say? I was really worried that I would purchase something I could never do in a million years and that I could have wasted my money. It arrived yesterday and after 2 hours, I had got a really good flow going, it may not be as good as some of you guys but it's getting there! (I think  ). After 3 hours I had the confidence to show 4 family members and left them all wondering and amazed, I was really chuffed as I hadn't done anything like this before and I had a great sense of achievement. Now I am slightly addicted to say the least

I had my eyes on the Subterfuge / Raven X2 as my next purchase due to having a rough idea on what it is, although clueless on how its done. I would love to make a coin disappear into "thin air" so to speak. When I mentioned this, "dat8962" kindly advised me that this might not be the best next purchase .

Could anyone kindly point/advise me on where I should go next? As in, what my next purchase should be or where I should be looking?

Many thanks

hi aurorora,
I think most people on this forum would sugest you search about beggining magic(on talk magic) as there have been many posts on this sort of thing. I suggest you buy some sort of dvd/book that doesnt just contain certain tricks but teaches you a number of sleights and tricks. Most popular ones would be,
. royal road to card magic (there also dvds based on this book)
. bobos coin magic
.Oz Perlman born to perform (card magic)
Im sure there are many more but these are the most popular known to me. hope i helped, and enjoy your journey in to the world of magic.
:D

Mark Wilson's Cyclopedia of magic gives a great footing in a lot of different styles of magic and as a bonus doesnt cost very much either!

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

I agree, try to get a hold of some dvd's and books first to give a grounding and so you can build up confidence. Then when you feel up to it, unleash your powers to the world! Three words of wisdom... practice, practice, practice till your hands fall off!

Raven X2 Buy it! best tool up my sleave, and I got a few up there... lol

Hi Dreamcatcher - where abouts are you in Bournemouth? Have you posted an introduction?

As stated - you're new to magic so DON'T buy a raven just yet. Go with what The Mog and Fender have advised and you'll learn much more value for your money.

It's been mentionned before but have a good look around and don't buy anything at the moment that has a difficulty rating of more then 2, or perhaps 3 at the very top.
