Message from Mods:

Ben, firstly we don't ask how things are done on TM and secondly we usually try and use decent English with proper grammar and spelling. Unless you make some attempt to communicate in a legible way, your future posts will have to be deleted.

I've seen a few books that have the details of this trick, but I can't remember what they were called... sorry. Suffice to say it is akin to big stage illusions and requires alot more groundwork than a simple gimmick.

the routine on the david blaine episode requires a gimmicked shop window(actually true!) so unless you have a budget of a few hundred thousand id possibly forget buying this one

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Of course you can always do it without the gimmick but that tends to hurt...

arm through glass

Postby linda » May 7th, '06, 20:31

Hi ben,

I do special effects make up and you can create the above effect quite simply.

Cinebuild (Find them on the web) make special effect "galss" in various shapes and sizes including window panes or bottles.I have used the company several times and all "glass" I have purchased from them looks very realistic.

As its fake glass you can in effect put your arm through it without harm (I use it in some of my make up effects as I cannot use real glass for health and safety reasons but it does look (And behave) like real glass

On a small scale, buy a Penetration Frame from almost any magic dealer. It is actually a small-scale version of what you're trying to achieve.

Then, perhaps you could scale it up and perform your desired effect!

window

Postby PickAnyCard » Jun 7th, '06, 00:20

I assume you all refer the David Blaine trick with the window when he did the watchsteal and magical passes the hand through the window etc. Now, Idont know if it is REALLY true that this could be a gimmick window, but anyway, here is my theori.
I have the showed video taped and watch it over and over the scene with the window. I really was convinced that it was a gimmick window until I got all puzzles together... There is 2 points of this:
1. How he got the watch inside the store
2. How he got the watch through the window

I know, while David is watchstealing there is this guy who shouts something about the queen of diamonds, and maybe you then think that he was a stooge in the show. Just misdirection from the watch while David in the same moment gives the watch to another helper who then runs to the store... Now this is not nessecerliy what happens.

But here is the thing:
You could in theori do this without a gimmick window. How? Well I got suspect when David must use this newspaper to cover this window action, grabbing the watch and taken it out. The basic is that David has the REAL watch in his left jack pocket. And the watch in the store is a copy of the ladies watch. When David puts the newspaper in order on the window he tears a whole with the hand and with the right angle he puts his hand in the pocket and grabs the watch. You will ask: But the hand in the other side of the window? Well if you have it taped then watch the clip carefully you will see some slight difference of the body color of the arm. And the newspaper covers so much of the window from the side so they dont see in. The paper cover from the wall to the middle of the window. David and the other guy is just timing with the grab of the watch.
