Illusionist Derren Brown always looks forward to visiting Llandudno.

It was at the seaside resort that he first saw a magic show that inspired him to become an illusionist.

Taking a week off a punishing touring schedule Derren told the Daily Post: “I have very fond memories of the theatre in Llandudno. I was a student and attended a magic convention.

“It was during the show, when I was sat right at the very back, that I first knew I was going to perform magic.”

Now a multi-award winning master of psychological illusion he will be bringing Miracle, his seventh, and possibly most provocative show yet, to Venue Cymru for a week from March 28.

He said Miracle was performed on tour and then enjoyed a run in London’s West End before touring again.

“Without getting too much into the content, this is the first show that is about things I find important.

“Others have had autobiographical bits in them, some more authentic than others, but this one is about things I find important. It has a philosophical underpinning I really care about. It’s ultimately, I suppose, about what makes us happier,” he said.

He scoffed rumours that Miracle would be his last tour but he is looking forward to a change in his routine.

“It’s been 14 years of touring, and that’s with writing a new show every two years.

“I may do something overseas for a change, but nothing major here in 2017.

“After that I’m not sure. I love touring so I don’t imagine I’m stopping for good quite yet. But a break would be lovely, not so much from the touring itself, but from the creation of new shows. It’s a lot of work getting them up to speed,” he said.

Derren added he is looking to spend a couple of months in New York next year with a show made up from his various shows.

“I’ve only ever wanted to do what’s enjoyable, and a couple of months - or whatever it will be - in New York, performing for people who don’t really know me, sounds like huge fun.

Derren is also looking forward to a totally new venture, he's created a a 13-minute Ghost Train ride at Thorpe Park in Surrey which opens this spring. It's the world's only fully immersive psychological attraction designed to manipulate the human mind.

“I hope it’ll scare and delight in equal measure. It’s been a huge project and an extraordinary opportunity to have fun with the latest technology and let my imagination run wild.

“Nothing of its kind exists, so I’ll be eager to hear from the first people who ride it and find out what they make of it. If all goes well, it’ll be amazing. I can’t wait to get on it myself,” he said.

Derren Brown is at Venue Cymru from March 28 to April 2 at 7.30pm. Tickets and more information available online or the Box Office on 01492 872000.
