Hatching by Néfesch
$22 From http://www.titanas.net/hatching.html

Media
This is a single effect, sold as a downloadable e-book. I say one trick, but the e-book is very comprehensive in that it is 71 pages, is full of very clear photographs and has a whole host of ideas, variations and general thoughts on performing the effect in different situations.

The Effect
The magician borrows a coin from the spectator and then asks them to select an egg from an offered carton. He then has the spectator sign both the coin and the egg.

The magician takes back both coin and egg and very slowly and visually pushes the coin through the shell into the egg.

The coin has now disappeared and the egg is shown to still be intact from all sides. No scratches. No holes. Just a solid unbroken egg.

You say the coin has penetrated the shell and is now in the egg. You will obviously see doubt on the faces of the spectators.

You take an empty glass. And show the egg again from all sides, also being careful to make sure that the spectator sees both hands empty of anything except the egg.

The egg is very slowly broken into the glass, where it can be clearly seen that the signed coin was indeed in the egg.

First Thoughts
My first reactions when I read about this effect were “Wow. I have to have it. NOW”, however in the past I have been as prone to CUPS as the next man (truth be told – probably more so), and so for that reason I decided to wait a little bit. Well I lasted about 5 minutes, after all with the pound to dollar rate at the moment the deal really was too true to miss. Right?

The e-book is incredible. It is 71 pages long and Nefesch really went to town making sure that every angle was considered (no pun intended, although indeed one of the topics of discussion was angles). There were ample photographs that made each step concise and easy to follow.

It covered details of two variations. One impromptu and one cleaner, but requiring a certain amount of set up. It also included several methods of reveal and 101 other things that really made you feel you were getting your money’s worth. The documentation for this effect could not be faulted. 10/10.

The main effect is the non impromptu version. It does require a set-up, but to be honest this is the hardest part of the whole effect. Once you have done this the rest is plain sailing and you end so beautifully clean when the coin is genuinely seen inside the egg that for me it is worth the extra work

Don’t get me wrong though, the impromptu version is also worth studying because you never know when you may be in a situation to use it. So far though I have only ever performed the pre-set version.

The Review
I hate to say it because it sounds so contrived, but the reactions I have had from this effect so far have been unbelievable. There is something about the fragility of an egg that for some reason make the magic even more impossible than if the coin appeared inside a lemon, kiwi or even a can of coke.

I haven’t performed this yet for a large audience, but I will. So far I have just performed it to various small groups (5 or 6) and each time the reactions have been everything I could have asked for. This is one of those effects that plays even stronger than you could imagine.

My preference is for the non-impromptu version just because when the egg is broken there is absolutely no doubt that the coin was in the egg. Hard (boiled) to believe but true.

After Thought
This effect has obvious similarities to Wayne Houchin’s Sinful effect, and it could be argued that neither version of hatching is as impromptu as sinful. (Let's be honest, not many people walk around with an egg).

My answer to this is that it may not be as impromptu, but it does in my opinion play a lot bigger. It is probably better to compare it with Bill to Lemon/kiwi as I see it more as a stage/Parlour effect than a walkaround street thing, but that is just how I will choose to perform it.

I am going to have one heck of a lot of fun with it with friends and family over Christmas.

Difficulty: 2 (impromptu 3)
1=Even I can do it, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Rating.
Overall: 9/10, Value for money: 10/10

Bottom Line.
It will "fry" your audiences, or at the very least it will "whip" them up into a fenzy and leave there brans "scrambled".

highly recommended

Normally I don't step into arguments like these, but Titanas - your comments are way out of line.

Seige is one of the most respected members of this forum - and I'm sure that respect spreads across many areas of this industry.

For you to come in here and cast aspersions on Seige simply because he gave an opinion that you didn't like is deplorable. Defend the advertisement of your products all you like, that's fine - but to casually toss accusations the way you're doing is highly unprofessional.

Don't try to pull this kind of garbage around here. I assure you - many of us won't stand for it.

Note from me...
After an unfounded and slanderous attack by Titanas, I've moved my criticism of this effect so as not to harm sales for Nefesch—with whom I've got great respect as an up and coming star.

I stand by my review (for those of you who previously read it) and would like to say Nefesch deserves 100% pat on the back for this, it's a great effect.

Why was that a fight Sir?
I just said my opinion...
Didn't by any mean wanted to be rude or start a fight.
Sorry if I sounded like that but my English dont help me to defend something and some times I sound rude.

so again,
If I sounded rude - I appologise.
All the best,
Titanas

Titanas... your English isn't so bad that you aren't aware of the difference between an ACCUSATION and an OPINION.

Took the plunge on this one on the strength of Bananafish's review. Looking forward to this. Our neighbours have two chickens. May have to give those eggs a good clean first.... Embarassed

This is indeed a very nice e-book! I am partial to the impromptu version, which is nicely developed and well scripted in the book. There is plenty of room here for presentation and the effect is very strong.

This is serious value for money.

That was my project when I was in school. Getting the copy of that manuscript is one of my awesome performance then. This Hatching from Nefesh is a very popular monograph where you learn many things.

I combined Dan Baines CSI with Nefeschs Hatching. It works really well with a bizarre plot line and the substitution of coffee for something else
