I Believe this is one of the Greatest tricks out there for kids shows...

The effect: You show a colouring book and its blank! You get them to pretend to throw pencils at it and BAM! The Pages Have picture outlines on them! But you can tell them you want to take it a step further... To Test their magical powers. So you get them to pretend to throw crayons at it... and you show them the colouring book, all the pages are COLOURED!

The Gimmick: This gimmik is pretty basic and creative It would last a long time if you treat it well.

Reactions: The Reactions can be amazing for this trick. Even adults can enjoy this trick. As long as you dont let anybody look at the gimmick you should be fine.

The Cost: The cost of the colouring book can range from about 10$ to 30$ Its not very much and its well worth it

I rate this trick 4.5/5 It is a great trick and people love it

I recommend this trick to anybody who enjoys performing magic for kids.

Interestingly, I'm sure that the colouring book has found its way into some modern magic sets. There have been shows where the mere sight of the book prompts older kids to shout out how the trick is done - before you've even done anything with it.

But then I've had other shows in which the same type of kid will swear blind that you switched the book...

pete, ive got a book in a magic set from the 1920s.

In Fact, The effect has been around for hundreds of years.The technical name for this item, is a "blow book".It might be worth doing a search for Ricky Jays blow book, which he produced for one of the big museum/art gallerys in the states.Id love to own one, but they are very few and far between

The magic stamp album is an all round better effect in my opinion although it does work using the very same principle.

Perhaps, but for kids shows, the colouring book wins hands down. Kids understand what a colouring book is and what you do with it. Stamp albums are an alien entitiy by comparison.

I believe you cannot put a high enough score on this item, it was the effect that got me into magic, and I love it, sure its simple and will not fool most adults but who cares. It works for kids as it is designed to do so, I love this trick so much and even though I do not perform it ever, I own one as should every magician as it not only reminds us of how magic should be but it pleases the inner child (in me anyway).

It can still a great routine even if kids have seen it before - or think they have. I've modified the coloring book by changing the cover and changing some of the pictures. David Kaye (Silly Billy) includes a drawing of himself which stops the 'I've seen this' reaction.

I love the coloring book. Being a kids magician, I use it at alomost every show. I pair mine with a box of disappearing crayons that I rigged up. And for a little extra, after a few failed attemps to get a crayon out of the box, I ust a silk and vanish the whole box of crayons then finish the coloring book

I'm so glad that this has received these positive reviews. I got the colouring book from somewhere (I forget), but it measures 3" x 4", is poorly made and I suspect anyone with an IQ larger than their waist size would see through it. Primarily, because with this size of book you have to perform it just a foot or two from their nose!

I don't do children's work, so I am unlikely to purchase the good version, but now I understand why it is so popular.

Just in addition to what's been said... Kiddies lurve the colouring book (when done well).

I used it the other day and the kids kept wanting to know if the pictures were still in it or if one of their friends had deleted them using an imaginary eraser... My routine lasted twice as long as I'd planned but that doesn't really matter as the kids were enjoying it..
