This isn't really an effect so I won't be using the standard review format.

The newsletter, which is referred to as "subscribing to Sankey Magic" is one of the replacements to their former system which was a paid subscription (yearly, I believe). It offered benefits such as a free DVD upon signing up (since the subscription fee was the average amount of one of his DVDs) special discounts, etc.

The new promotional system involves a discount for everyone on all products purchased at SankeyMagic.com (usually between 10-15%), a newsletter with monthly discounts, and his YouTube channel which has "secret videos" that subscribers to the channel are notified of and only stay online for only 24 hours. To my knowledge there hasn't been one released yet, but the last newsletter says it comes out within the next couple days - it seems to be the method for a card trick.

The newsletter is your standard new items and limited time discounts advert, and a nice bonus is the monthly free trick (which is not exactly monthly). For a spring sale he discounted about 2 dozen products and each month he does a pick 3 which discounts 3 products heavily (around 40-50% off).

One thing to know about the subscription is that "limited time" has an emphasis on the "limited". While many adverts last for the whole month with a coupon code or at least a week or two the May Sankey newsletter (sent out on the 10th) with his 3 discounted picks are already back at regular price (5 days later). So if you see something you like look up reviews fast and get the order in.

If you like Sankey's stuff it's worth the time you'd take to sign up and the adverts are sent often enough to be appreciated but not so often you're sick of seeing his name in the inbox. Just be sure to do your research on any discounts quickly, his deals don't last long at all.

As a follow up:

The first 24 hour free trick has been released. As I mentioned above in his May newsletter on the 10th he said he would release the video within the following 7 days.

The video actually released on May 24th. Besides falling outside his "release date" there were some issues with how everyone was notified (through YouTube) which resulted in some people being notified late, or not at all.

So in the future Jay has decided to use the above reviewed newsletter to also make subscribers aware of the 24 hour YouTube videos.

As for the actual content itself, I can't say. I missed it due to the mis-estimation of release date and a late notification.

On the upside the latest sale was really fantastic and I'm expecting 4 new Sankey DVDs...
