I'm planning for a peru and ecuador and galapagos islnads trip for xmas and new year.

First part is all planned, UK/Europe to guyaquil, guyaquil to galapagos isles, back to guyaquil, up to quito (start of altitude aclimatisation), from quito to peru (prob lima) then to cusco. After about 4 days in cusco the inca trail arriving at machu picchu on xmas day. back to cusco. from cusco to the amazon for a few days in the jungle.

but from here I need help.

anyone been the south america way and visted places in peru/ecuador?

I'm going to work my way up coastwards I think after the amazon but all the while from the amazon is about getting back to either quito or guyaquil for the return home.

anticipated length of trip 4 - 6 weeks. If anyone has any south american experiences do please share ideas with me!! I'm a culture vulture rather than a beach adonis (ahem). I dont mind the odd afternoon on the beach lazing but I want to see lots of history and culture!!

I have travelled extensively through Brazil and spent a nice week in Lima...I would advise Macchu Picchu and Cuzco more generally...

Don't forget to pay a visit to Paddington's Aunt Lucy if you go to Lima...
