Ok I have been practising this for a while and am having a little bit of trouble keeping the two cards flush once i have turned them over.

I grip the corner of the two cards with my right hand palm up with my thumb on top and my middle and index finger below the two cards seem to 'fan' out when turning them over. I'm using RRTCM.

Can anyone give me any tips on keeping the cards flush to not give the sleight away?

too much exposure there? Oh well, hold between thumb and middle finger, first finger keeping flush and balanced, then its easy to pick up and they are always flush.

Do not hold onto the card the whole time. As soon as you pick up the double and turn it above the vertical, let gravity do the work and allow the cards to fall. Then use your index finger to push it flush as soon as it drops!

Pick up a copy of Oz's Born to Perform Magic because watching it is usually better than reading it.

I found this as well when I started trying this.

Try sliding your thumb and finger up the edge of the card and grab them in the middle of the side (you know where I mean), lift to vertical, and like has already been mentioned.. let gravity do the work.

Another thing I got from watching Daryl is to flick the cards from under your left thumb as you lift them giving a moment of misdirection (Is this misdirection.. no idea myself.. but I like it) and maybe a bit showy.

Oh.. and remember to lift all cards the same way, double or not.

Here's a tip: don't use Royal Road. It's out of date, boring and poorly illustrated.

Are you joking?!!! Ok, the illustrations aren't the best, but there aren't many better books that cover the fundamental basics of card magic.

Reading and learning the contents of this book will give you great foundations to build on. Once you have mastered the basics, you can add your own ideas to the sleights and tricks to make them your own.

One of the most respected card men of our time recommended this as my first book when I was 11 years old. I've never looked back!

You could get "Double Take" by Greg Wilson. Amazing DVD. You'll be spinning doubles in 2 minutes.There's a special part on Replacements(turnovers) with a lot of good tips...

Ok, heres a progress report: I found that letting the cards 'drop' once vertical helped alot more to keep the cards flush and also looks more natural. Thanks to everyone that has given advice. Still not 100% percent success but give me a few more days before i show anyone tricks

And on the subject of Royal Road, I think it is good but I'm halfway through the book and I wouldn't really use many of the tricks i've learnt so far. I'm going to start looking at DVDs. However RRTCM has given me the sleights and shuffles that are essential to any card newbies!!

Insight, I'd have to agree with stevebo's advice. Get "Born To Perform". I just done a review of it, here. you will find advice for the DL, along with a ton of other sleights which are crucial.

Keep practicing this one, it's the key to a million killer tricks!

I'm new here so I hope you won't think me to much of a show-off while trying to help a fellow newbie. However, I pull DLs all day long at work. I work for a magic shop. Your best begining move should be to look your audience directly in the eye. While doing this just riffle off the top pair. You'll be fine. Then the lift. Of course practice this with friends/family before pulling it out through your routine.
