The Effect
Spectator selects & signs a card, the card is lost in the deck, you then borrow a coin (10p would probably work, not sure of the sizes of UK money anylonger) which can be signed if desired. You then wrap the coin in tissue paper & light it, it bursts into flames & when the flames have died down the coin is seen to have burned a hole through part of the pack & stoped ontop of the selected card.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

somewhere between 1 & 2. The one move used doesn't realy count as a sleight. if you are not performing this as a one off trick you will need to do a deck switch

Review

This trick packs a serious punch. The Aardvark in the deck is ingenouse
and is compatable with most currencies in the world (tho I believe it was made originaly for a US Quater)
The trick shouldn't take more than 10 min to master & you will be blowing your spectators away very quickly.
The deck is entierly inspecible after the trick

Side note you will need to purchase another Aardvark to work with this deck, but that is readily available from your local dealer.

Overall
The ease with which you can learn & perform this trick makes it a good trick for Begicians (love that term)

I'll give it a 10/10 for Spec reaction & ease of use.

I've used this trick, and it does pack a big punch. It is better if performed for only a few people (rather than for a large table) so they can see the effect properly - it really does appear that the coin is burning through the deck.

I've just started using this trick and it is really effective. I strongly recommend it. The only downer at the outset is that you have to buy flash paper seperately, but this really is a minor gripe. It was my own stupidity for not realising. It meant for once I sat and read the instructions and while I was waiting for flash paper I had time to re-read them and then a few times more. A bit of self discipline for once, rather than charging off into doing the trick, I actually sat and thought about presentation.
I totally agree with Phil that it is best recieved when performed to a small group. There is much more impact when people are in near to the flash paper as it burns rather than stuck the other end of the room in a big group.

I've been doing this for a while and it's strong.

A tip for those of you doing this. Buy a packet of Rizla's and cut your flash paper up into strips that are roughly the same size and fold them inside of the packet flap. Although loose, no-one ever spots this and the flash paper looks just like a rizla, giving you an excuse to introduce a piece of paper.

Stop it Spurman - you're bringing out my evil side The thought had crossed my mind but I cannot claim the rizla thing myself.

I was talking to a fellow magi in my local magic studio about this very trick and it was his suggestion. Just thought that I'd share it.

Agree with everything so far - but with one proviso....

The pack I got is *clearly* - and I mean CLEARLY - made from two separate decks. The difference between the gaffed half and the normal half is immediately obvious to all who watch...

If I could shuffle them together it may be less obvious - but then also impossible to perform the effect!!!

I suspect that as it is such an strong effect, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy a circular-hole-cutter-outer-thingy from a craft shop...

It shouldnt make too much difference, i made 2 of my own, and yes, the decks are of different textures, but, provided you curl your tumb round the deck when palm up, it covers most, making it undetectable.

Ive performed at lots of times, and also, the fact that a coin has travelled through the pack in a blaze of fire is amazing, it kills any suspition about the deck.

I too noticed immediately that the two halves of the deck look different but you have to remember that we have the secret that makes us notice these things.

I tend to do most of my performances in a slightly dimmed environment and after people have had a few drinks and specs have NEVER noticed.

I first reviewed this just over a year ago, I loved it then and I still like it now. Noone has ever picked up on the two halves looking different.

This is one trick that I like to carry around with me always, powerful and visual - plus I like messing with the flash paper, little fire-bug me - lol!!

I actually sat and used one of Sankeys cards as a template and cut with a craft knife, half of a new deck, perfectly!!

Now its one complete, matching deck.

Definitely well worth it, this trick is very good, it still amazes ME when i peform it!

I've added the turnover pass from the beginning with some patter to cover, find it so much of a convincer. Definitely try this if you havent already!!
