Thought I'd spread the news to anyone that might have access to the BBC Archive trial that they've got an episode of Paul Daniel's show on there :)

You need to have signed up for the trial some time ago I'm afraid. I mentioned it in case anyone else had already signed up

Can you download it through the BBC iPlayer thing any way? I have that (signed up a while back as a beta tester...but never really heard much back, I have the iPlayer on my PC - wondered if its on there anywhere?)

I found this brilliant clip of Paul daniels in action. It includes one of my favourite routines the electric chairs:

And he's still entertaining audiences with that routine most weeks of the year. Priceless stuff and good to see it on vid - thanks!

He was my childhood hero :D

So many good routines, so very funny too. The one that sticks in my mind the most was his cup and ball routine that ended with a lemon and an orange. So fast, so slick, so very very good!

I always hated the linking Rings. I'd see it at a convention and just almost have to leave, (sorry for all you metal hoops fan) Then I saw Paul Daniels with this little girl and he did this whole routine with her and kept giving the girl these invisible confidence pills and of course as her confidence grew she was able to link and unlink the rings. Probably one of my favourite routines of all time. Also re-enforced for me there are really no bad tricks, it is what you do with them. Another routine he did was with the monkeys, and one saw the gimmick in the bottom of the can and was infatuated with it.
I never said it is your fault, I said I'm blaming you! www.bmat10.wordpress.com

Heeheheheh

Not quite a C.F., I'd say an educated choice facilitated by a half O.W.F.D.

Still very nice tho!

And yeah—he's still got game.

AMEND:

I have just had word off Paul Daniels himself that this was indeed a classic force, nothing else.

OK... I am in awe.

I must admit I envy Paul Daniels ability to entertain. I loved the clip with the girl and the 6 of diamond in the private setting. I sometimes have a problem that to much humor ruin the magic, but its a matter of balance. In my view Paul often take quite simple effects and turn them into something great.

About 15 years ago Paul Daniels gave a very entertaining talk about magic and mathematics at the mathematical institute in Oxford (where I was a student at the time). I very much liked his talk and needless to say it was very entertaining.
