Hey guys, just got this for my birthday and didn't see a review of it so I thought I would make one real quick.
Effect
Magic Farm - DVD by David Williamson
Cost
$33.95 from ellusionist... I got it for my birthday so i don't know if this can be found for cheaper somewhere else...
Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
I am actually going to say 4 or 5... sure there are a couple tricks that are a 3 but alot of them are pretty difficult.
Review
Pros:
This DVD has some of the most stunning closeup magic tricks on it I have ever seen. A couple of the tricks I didn't really like at all and I am pretty sure I will never use them but the majority of the tricks are just great!
This DVD shows more how to do the routines and the tricks without going into great detail on each sleight. It is not a DVD you should get if you don't know what a double undercut is or if you don't know how to catch a pinky break. He mentions the sleights just breifly and expects the viewer to already know how to do them. This is nice if you already have DVDs or books that show you these sleights so that you are not wasting your time during this DVD.
David Williamson is quite funny and very entertaining. Not only is this a plus for making the DVD not as boring as some others I have seen but also is good for helping get some ideas to add into your performance.
Cons:
There is alot of non-magic in this DVD. The first 15 minutes or so is basically a music video of David Williamson joking around with people and doing magic tricks every once in awhile. Although there is some funny stuff here it seems like it drags on for some time. In fact, i fast forwarded to see if that is how the whole dvd was going to be.
He moves just a little too fast through some of the tricks. He is a very good magician and I think he expects other people to be just as good as he is. By doing this is makes you have to rewind over and over again to understand what he is talking about. This isn't through the whole DVD just in a few spots.
Overall
I give this video an 8 out of 10.
It is a good video with some really strong effects in it but there is also alot of wasted time in it. The wasted time is made up for the fact that it is almost 2 hours long... but there is still quite a bit of sillyness.
Hope this review was helpful,

Funnily enough I was browsing this afternoon - you can guess where - and Isaw this particular DVD, read the cover and put it back with some interest remaining.
After reading your review I'm not sure if I'm glad that I put it back or disappointed that I didn't buy it.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

This DVD is excellent!!
Theres a blinding 3 selection card routine on here, a nice variation of the 2 card monte and a large section on Williamson's "Strike Vanish" among other stuff.
Watching the performances are a big part of the appeal of this DVD, he is hilarious.
Highly recommended from me chaps.

I have this on order at the moment and will add more comments when I've seen the DVD
I was shown a colour changing deck routine by a magician friend and it is in my opinion the best colour changing deck routine I've seen. Ok I've not seen them all but its very entertaining.
He told he he'd learnt it from this DVD so in the cart it went.... I can't wait for it to arrive

Yeah it's his variation on Paul Harris's "Colour Stunner" from the Art of Astonishment. A big improvement in my opinion, but a little harder than the original, but very do-able. I perform it regularly as it's one of my all time favourites.
You have purchased wisely Agecroft.

Personally I'd say Daniel Garcia's Nacho Momma's Triumph just about pips it but that's just me...
Great dvd, Williamson is great to watch and very funny and also Oz Perlmann's favourite magician into the bargain. There's not a massive amount of stuff on here but what there is is solid and, most importantly, thoroughly road tested in the real world. Get it.
