its kinda the junior version of the magic circle it seems ,does anyone know anyone that is a member of this club , and is it any good? i was thinking of enrolling my lad when he turns 10.

I was a member of the Young Magician's Club (and the Supreme Magician's Club) when I was around 15 or 16. This was a good number of years ago, and you got a quarterly magazine from them or something similar. With it being based down in London, it wasn't a whole lot of use, except that I could put the club logo on my business cards at the time.

David Berglass did however manage to get me a signed photo of David Copperfield while I was a member however, for which I will be eternally grateful.

If the current club benefits match the price, then I would go ahead, the Circle is certainly a very good organisation. The other thing was at the time, I think you got a kind of a semi-fastrack into the adult magic circle if you were a member (don't quote me on that though), but again, I couldn't afford it, and being in London, wasn't much use to me at the time.

sounds worth the 30 quid a year , i guess even without being able to attend the meetings n workshops or wotever in london , think il sign him up , cheers

It is a very worthwhile institution. Obviously it assumes your son is actually into magic.

oh yeh he loves magic, so do i though , im not sure whos the worst for it me or him

I've already earmarked this for my son in 9 years time!!

My son is a member and it is Well worth more than the price of membership. I live about 3/4 of an hour away by train and tube, so am able to take him most times. the workshops cost an extra £5.00 each time, but when they have some of the top magicians giving advice and helping with the workshops, that is a tiny price to pay. Just the experience and confidence they gain, let alone any magic, is worth making the effort to go. You would have to find something to do for 5 hours though, as parents are not allowed in during the Workshops. They normally have a show at night, which includes whoever has been taking the workshop. This is open to adults to watch and was £5 a ticket last year. For a couple of hours watching some "names" in magic,it is, once again, very good value.

Also, while they are in the workshop, you have an excuse to visit both Davenports and International magic!!!

Fell across topic by accident! As Chairman of YMC I would like to thank you for your kind words.

I know people tend to focus on our workshops but they really shouldn't be the reason for joining (or for not joining, more to the point). We have members from all over the world - currently from US, Ireland, Australia, France, Germany and Switzerland.

The subscription also covers a full colour glossy magazine which appears every other month and is a good read for adults too (judging by the numbers of adults who subscribe just for that).

Our web site has an active forum where members can chat to each other on all topics magical.

So nowadays being in Scotland, or anywhere else, isn't a problem - although I have to say our workshops have regular attendees from as far away as Hull, Wrexham, Bristol and the West coast of Ireland!
