Move Mastery Vol1 - Peter Duffie

Postby saxmad » Tue Nov 16, 2004 9:23 pm

The Effect - Well, there are 16 different short card effects, each only a few seconds long, and none using a table, or anything other than an ordinary pack of cards. Presented on a CD-ROM (for MS Windows).

Cost £14.95 from http://www.peterduffie.com/

Difficulty From 3 to 5.

Review Initial impressions might be disappointing for some - a home produced CD-ROM with absolutely NO frills - but for me this just added to the "underground" feel of the product. Peter demonstrates and teaches 16 very visual card effects - productions, vanishes, colour changes etc. The effects are somewhat reminiscent of the "Superhandz" stuff except that this is magic, not flourishes. The teaching is very clear, with a simple single camera angle on Duffies hands (you never see his face!).

I wouldn't dream of trying to do justice to the effects by describing them. You really need to go to the web site and dowload the demo.

For me, this is as close to real magic as card work gets, alongside Lennart Green's work. The effects can be performed as quick (gob-smacking) tricks, or could be worked into longer card routines that you may already perform.

Or even just as training material to learn about palming and stealing.

The material isn't easy but neither is it finger-breaking. I received the CD today (less than 24 hours after ordering) and already have the first three "Fasteals" halfway to performance level. I wouldn't expect any real trouble learning the rest - the instruction is so clear.

Overall I'd have to give this 10/10. Whether using this stuff as utility moves or as quick effets in their own right, this CD is a great addition to any card-workers library.

I meant to review this ages ago, but I've never had the time...

I had a chat with Peter at Blackpool last year - I gave him a cpoy of my Coin CD, and he seemed interested in the 'no frills CD' idea. I sent him some code and bingo, this excellent disc appears.

As mentioned, the CD teaches a number of typically Duffie moves, which you will be able to see at the demo mentioned above. Some of the moves are easy, some are very hard, but all are attainable with some effort.

I would recommend this CD to anyone who wants to learn some moves that are no in the mainstream yet. If you put the work in you will have some very useful tools.

Take care, Ian
