sean fields infinity switch

Postby magic8697 » Apr 19th, '06, 17:57

The infintiy switch is just another way of doing the 100 dollar bill switch. When I first saw it I must admit I was fooled. So I went to Penguin Magic(my first mistake) and ordered it. It is basically an 11 minute instructional video with not one word spoken. That's right it's music all the way through. The only angle you can do it on is sraight forward. This one effect is 18 dollars. And after watching the video I think I will just stick to Ammars Classic rendition of the hundred dollar bill switch.

effect 8/10
practibility 3/10
value 1/10

The infinity switch is indeed just another way of doing a bill switch - however that statement (imho) doesn't do it justice.

It is a very visual way of switching the bill in that the bill appears to change right in front of your eyes.

When I first saw it I must admit I was fooled.
Well doesn't that say something? I assume by your statement at the start that you know the standard way of doing a switch - and yet still, this one fooled you? But then after you get it you get it you say you are disappointed.

We are often disappointed once we learn a method, however I do think that Sean Fields came up with something new here that was worth publishing.

Incidently I notice your "review" didn't even mention whose trick it was.

basically an 11 minute instructional video with not one word spoken. That's right it's music all the way through
And this is a problem why? Did you not feel it taught you sufficiently? Would you have preferred written instructions? or just have someone talking on the DVD?

Personally I thought it was taught very well. As to only being 11 minutes - why add anything else if what is there works?

And after watching the video I think I will just stick to Ammars Classic rendition of the hundred dollar bill switch.

Well that is understandable and I accept that, but you also should remember what made you buy it in the first place. You saw it and thought - goodness gracious me, that was good and I don't know how it was done. Do you not feel you could get those reactions with it? I know I can.

I just thought I would put the otherside to the argument. I do accept that why bother with another bill switch, but then look at the demo clip and ask yourself if you WANT to be doing it that way...

I'm just saying he could have at least said one word in the video. He said nothing it was 12 minutes of music. I'm not saying it wasn't a good effect. It is. I'm talking about the practibility and value. The original bill switch is way much better all around.

As a personal friend of Sean's I asked him why... He said, well it's so rediculously easy, why would you need me to say anything? Sean is an incredible magician, he comes up with some pretty neat ideas. As far as infinity goes, I wouldn't ever use it, but it looks really clean.

The best thing about it, is you're not folding it into sixteenths, which is pretty sweet.

Doing a trick straight on is how magic is sometimes, if you can't live with angles, magic probably isn't for you.

I'm not saying it was a good trick. I'm just saying that he could have done a better job explaining it. If your paying for something you should get their best effort. To me it looked like he was just there to make a buck.

No offence meant, but isn't that the purpose of selling tutorial videos? If he's come up with a great move, and is willing to share it. I mean if you did, would you give it away for free? Of course not. It's just like patter when performing, some tricks need it, some don't. I've not seen the move, or the tutorial performed, so cannot comment on that...

I just felt that he could have put a little more effort into explaining the effect. Imagine if you were new to magic and didn't know what a tt was. You get his video and look and you say what the Heck is that thing. Another example would be revolution. That is a simple move and could have been taught the same way. But they took the time and effort to explain the effect. I just feel it was a horrible value. I've been into magic for over 16 years and I feel this was the biggest dissapoinment I have ever bought.

I just saw a demo on this and was wondering if it worked with different sized notes?
