Haywire Deck

Postby Braundy » Aug 6th, '06, 14:39

No R/S or Wx on cards

Effect -
Magician produces a pack of red backed rider poker Bikes and leaves one card in the case. He fans the deck and shows the faces, cascading the backs and generally displaying the deck to be a deck of cards. The spectator is invited to pick a card from a face down fan and commit it to memory. The deck is put on the table along side the face down specators drawn card and the single card is now drawn from the case. It has two buttons printed on it Haywire and Reset. This is placed atop the deck and the spectator presses Haywire - instantly the deck is spread and shown both sides - the cards are mixed face up and face down!!!! The deck is split and the spectator invited to replace their card still face down and hidden in either pile (genuine free choice) The deck is reassembled and the deck "reset" by the specator by pushing the button. Again, all the cards are spread and shown both sides to be all facing the same way! Then, the final blow. No moves you hand them the deck. You ask - for the first time reveal your card blah blah ( You do not know it genuinely) The spectator ribbon spreads the deck and there is their card, face down among all the ordered otheres. They remove it and you take your place in history.

I say....

This is an awesome trick that blows everyone away, I use it as an opener everytime I can. The jumbling up causes laughs and is so weird that people seem to relax and think - hey this is different, then the finish with the reset and spread revelation makes it a great start. Although, yes the deck needs to be switched I have found it to be more of a pro than a con. After finishing I tuck the deck away leaving the reset card and the spectators drawn card on the table, reach for their card then appear to change my mind and say "would you like to see another card trick or are they a little tame?" The answers always yes, out comes regular deck (hehe complete with automatic duplicate of whatever they picked) I spread through culling their duplicate and miscalling going into a transposition or whatever. It forced me to change my routine and I love every bit of it.

Unfortunately, I cant give credit for this effect. I am unaware of this deck being currently available, or having seen this working before. If anyone knows anything about it and the creator please contact me, its a fun trick and has a couple of variation possibilities. If anyones serious about getting the effect and its not available (as I believe) pm me ( no uber noobs please ) I would be happy to explain it as its a great effect that more people should have access to.

Should mention, although the deck is the secret the working is so good that nomatter how much people resist - they always end up picking up the plain old reset/haywire button cards and looking for electronics or the like! The deck is consistently displayed as ordinary.

The working is automatic, just a deck of cards and go through the routine, I use as an icebreaker to allow me to gauge the crowd, no thinking of trick lets me massage them, and boy are they warm at the end of this!

Nice first review, if you could put a link to where it is on sale that would really help people who are interested in buying one.

I wish I knew, that was part of the reason I reviewed it. I hope someone will know as it is a great effect and one I am a big fan of. Hopefully someone will spot it and come up with a place to get it. I'm happy to explain the working if someone wants to make their own up - only if it cant be found on sale. I bought it from a small magic shop in Trago Mills in Newton Abbot for around £10.00 I could earn a living WITH it!!!

Alakazam showed this effect at a dealer dem they did at my club a month ago. I think their version's called the Chaos deck or something, have a look on their site and it'll be there. It's about a tenner I believe.
