The Effect

"Finally, an EASY to do "Card at Your Birthday" diary trick, with NO MEMORY, NO CALCULATIONS in your head, NO cue sheets to hide. Just use your favorite deck of playing cards and Kenton's unique secrets.

A deck of cards is spread faces to the spectator. The performer NEVER looks at the faces. The spectator names her birthday, and the performer sets one card down sight unseen - even by him. If you prefer, the spectator herself can cut or take a card and set it aside.

The performer mentions how personality types and cards often go together. He may do a reading at this point if desired, or skip it if he does not wish to do so.

A large, full-color chart that has been sitting on the table the entire time is opened by the spectator. She finds her birth date, and notes which card is listed as "her special card" on that day. Sure enough, this very card is the one she selected, or the performer set aside sight unseen.

You can use your own REAL deck and your own REAL pocket calendar or business organizer. But Kenton has created a beautiful chart, very esoteric in appearance. He did not stop there...

Kenton had a chart in the very expensive Wonder Readings system, and this has similarities. This version however is even more deceptive for the date on calendar effect, and easier than anything published previously. In fact, this is THE system Kenton uses to this day. The Review

Well? Where to start? Firstly, everything above is true. You receive one chart on glossy card stock (it really is quite beautiful in appearance) and two paper copies of the same size. There are so many details built right in to the chart, including guidelines for giving personality readings based on their birthday and, as is said above, memory aids for possible patter lines. The thinking behind the design itself is brilliant.

What's more if you want to go close-up with it then Kenton tells you how to do this, and gives his tips for doing so too.

The effect itself is brilliant and breathtaking. Done properly, it garners reactions akin to those of TV's Street Magic specials. Everything is so fair, direct and impossible with a presentation which just works. As ever with Kenton the presentation line is a somewhat mystical yet enchanting one, and a good base to work on your own for this kind of effect IMHO.

The method is devious and relatively easy to pull off. I don't know many of these kinds of effects but now that I know this it is safe to say that I will not be looking to purchase another. There is some set-up necessary, but it's an almost-instant reset.

If you want a really powerful performance then let them choose the card for themselves (detailed in the instructions).

I don't really know what to say about this effect other than it is simply excellent. Priced about right, with goregous props (one or two stylistic tweaks could have been made here and there but then that's always a subjective thing and you shouldn't really have any qualms whatsoever with what you receive), a near-impossible methodology to figure out with a great presentation-line, and an eight or so page instruction booklet - single-sided on A4 which also goes in to detail on how to give readings.

Put simply, this is a great package, and if you are interested in a Diary effect with many presentational options then this really should be your first stop IMO.
