My Osmosis Review

u]OSMOSIS REVIEW[/u]

The Effect:
Basically you display a beer bottle, full or empty and slowly and visually rub the labels until they completely penatrate the bottle and are now on the otherside of the glass. You can do this to both the bottle neck label and big main label. There are two effects that are explained - the visual rub, and one which uses a silk to cover the bottle etc.
The blurb is found here :

http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=508

Cost:
£30 seems to be the going rate, however the heineken label version is not being made or sold anymore as I found out from weeks of searching! The new version is a "saint pauli girl" labelled bottle, which is an american brand I think, I do not know of it. However all prices are around this. I recommend looking for someone who is selling their bottle as this is what i did and you can get it much cheaper.

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I give it a 3,
There is one move that took me a bit of practice but trust me it's not that hard. Plus no one will be watching the move because there is a distraction taught. From then on its simple.

Review
Right well firstly if you are a UK magician I would recommend buying the heineken labelled version instead of the new "saint Pauli Girl" labelled bottle. Reasons - 1. heineken is a well recognized brand and no one will question the bottle, where as I have never seen this saint pauli bottle in any bar or pub I've been to and it will look very strange 2. Because if you want to perform the rub effect you will need to buy more bottles and get the labels from them, and heienken's labels have not changed as I bought some yesterday, and once again I do not know where to buy the other brand beer (I think its american). So yeah, your going to need to search for the old version because it works so much better when all your mates are drinking heineken. Firstly the effect looks amazing to the spectator and everyone I have done it to has not guessed. There is one thing you need to be careful of at the end, but there is a huge off beat when all your spectators are to busy looking and examining the labels on the inside of the bottle, so you have time to get clean. The ONLY problem with the bottle is its a slightly fatter and shorter shape than the new henieken bottle shapes BUT this does not matter at all because it is hardly noticable and no1 looks at the bottles sizes and compares because once again they are looking for something to do with the label. I found the moves easy except one as I mentioned above, however I had it down in about an hour of practice. I recommend performing the rub effect and buying your own labels because it is so much more effective to visually watch it rub through rather than slap. Last words - has worked perfect for me and is a crowd puller. You do have to take the bottle back after performing which is a bit annoying as if you were doing it with any bottle you'd leave it there, but no1 notices. Its a gr8 trick, well worth the money if you can perfect it. Instructions are a bit over the place but good. Watch Paul Zenon perform it on his show and thats an example of reactions you'll get!

Overall
8.5/10

This a much ignored effect, i had one several years ago. It takes a bit of getting used to and the instructions are not too good in parts, but it all works out in the end. A nice bar trick that i do dig out sometimes.

You could also look at LABELLED which is the same effect but with a sprite-esque bottle.

I do not know if it is better than Glass Mirage because I do not own it, but from what people having been sayiong about glass mirage including yourself, compared to osmosis I feel Osmosis is the better effect. Alex Lourido has produced a high quality trick here, theres no doubt about it, even if some people don't like the idea behind it or the handling (1 move). My advice sell your glass mirage and give osmosis a try.
As Kati rightly mentioned LABELLED looks good aswell, a cheaper alternative which can be done with any plastic bottle I think. As a matter of fact I am purchasing that in a few days. I love the penetration effects, especially the glass ones!
