Hi this is my first reveiw, and also topic I suppose. Do all tricks need to be stunners? and should the magician always win?
The Effect
The performer calls up two membwrs of the audience who sit either side of him at a table. The performer shows the two silks and then ties half a knot and invites one of the members to tie the second half. The knot then dissapears. The performer then reapeats this with the spectator examining all the moves, he even pulls the knot as tight as he can and again the knot dissapears. Finally the other spectator is invited to tie a knot then the other spectator is invited to tie yet another knot on top and still the knot dissapears.
Cost
£30.00 you get a DVD and 2 silks to practice with
Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
1 to 2 and sometimes it just won't work at all!!!!!! but this is rare and is covered in the video. The routing should be played for comedy which would cover such an unfortunate event.
Review
the trick is an old one but in my opinion a good one. The magician is not taking himself too seriously with this trick, it's not a strong wow trick, its a nice freindly feel nice trick. It's good to stick in a multiple routine show as an audience calmer. In other words you've hit the audience with two stunning tricks and their now over excited. So you pull out this trick to calm them down before building them up again for your grand ending. And if it fails then great, the audience beat you. Why not let them win one, it makes them feel good. It will still be magician 5 audience 1 at the final score.
Overall
I like this trick, it uses very simple props that all ages that can tie knots understand and as stated above has its place. IMHO an place ofted overlooked by us magicians, one of calm and not wow.
It can be presented to make two adults look silly
It can be presented to make a child look better than an adult
It can be presented as a confused magician
Or as a beaten magician!
I would give it 5/10 as a stand alone trick but 8/10 if used as a calmer.
I look forward to your thoughts on both the trick and the two questions posed above
